Human Resources Management has been one of the pillars of Management for time immemorial. Of course, one learns HRM through lectures and case studies in the class rooms but a different perspective emerges when one tries to learn it by DOING. Students of MBA are encouraged to join an HR Club so that they can plan and implement various activities that are aimed at increasing their horizon of Knowledge and skills in the field of HR
Some of the important activities the club performs are conducting workshops by industry experts of HR related topics, conducting skill development workshops for the high school children, sessions on HR Skill development, etc.
2023-24
The program “MANOMAYA” a counselling session was organised for students of grade 6 and their parents by the MITE HR club. Dr Madhumala K, a reputed and proficient counsellor addressed parents and children on Mental Health awareness among kids. The initiative aimed to help kids better understand mental health, equip them with tools to handle challenges and encourage self-awareness. This approach proves beneficial in nurturing a supportive environment where parents and teachers can actively engage with their children, promoting emotional well- being and resilience. The execution of this program served as a valuable learning experience for the club members.
The event witnessed significant success, with the participation of 25 students and 20 parents. The program facilitated an enhanced understanding of the significance of maintaining sound mental health.
2022-23
HR Club organized an informative workshop on "SPEAK TO LEAD - ENHANCE YOUR PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS" for 9th-grade students at Government High School, Bailur on December 19, 2022.
A presentation on improving public speaking skills and overcoming stage fear was conducted by student volunteers.They delved into the significance of dress codes, appearances, and right postures in our daily lives. They emphasized how physical traits and body language communicate aspects of one's personality. A group exercise focused on non-verbal communication, allowing students to understand how people convey ideas through actions.The workshop proved to be a resounding success, with active participation from 235 students
The HR Club, launched the "Kaushal Vikas Programme" to support and guide local students in their educational and career pursuits. As part of this initiative, a "PARIVARTHAN" student counselling session took place on December 19, 2022, at Karnataka Public School, targeting high school students.
To engage the students effectively, the HR Club members performed a short skit emphasizing the importance of education and the value of positive friendships that encourage academic growth. Following the skit, presentations delved into the significance of building a career and addressed common student concerns such as smart phone addiction, exam fear, stress, and anxiety. The students were provided with practical study techniques to enhance their exam preparation and boost their confidence by counsellor Ma Akshata D'Souza. The session helped 114 studentsin fostering positive changes in students' lives and motivating them to pursue meaningful careers and goals.
The HR Club hosted a "CAREER GUIDANCE PROGRAM" on December 20, 2022, tailored for 9th and 10th-grade students from Shri Subramanya High School in Kadandale. The session offered a comprehensive exploration of various courses and career prospects post-10th grade and pre-university courses (PUC). It.
Students gained insights into scholarship applications and competitive exams, with club members readily addressing questions. The HR Club's initiative was a great success, providing valuable career guidance and educational pathway insights to numerous students.
The HR Club initiated the "Kaushal Vikas Programme" aimed at providing essential information, guidance, and awareness to local students for their future benefit. Under this program, an event named "SPARSHA" was organized on December 20, 2022, at St. Thomas English and Kannada Medium School in Alangar.
"SPARSHA" focused on educating students in grades 1, 2, and 3 about the concepts of "good touch" and "bad touch" to help them understand how to protect themselves from potential abuse. The program also encouraged open communication between children, parents, and teachers on this sensitive topic. with over 235 students benefiting from this important awareness session
2021-22
The HR Club organised a workshop on “Personality Development” on 26th July 2022 for the 2nd year MBA-HR students to lead them into deeper aspects of personality and to assess their effects on individuals and society,
Dr Audrey Pinto , a Psychologist was the resource person for the session.She addressed students about different traits one must possess or gain, that will improve their personality which ultimately will lead them towards excellence. In between the sessions, Ms. Audrey Pinto also conducted several activities to keep the students lively and active during the session.
The HR Club of MBA Department, MITE organised a workshop on Psychometric tests on 5th July 2022 for the HR and finance students of 2nd year MBA.The speaker of the session was Audrey Pinto a Psychologist provided a brief overview of Psychometric tests, their uses and importance in the corporate world.She practically taught students how to administer these tests and deal with various types of people.
The session was a great experience as the participants were able to practically assess their personality and lean towards the hidden aspects of their personality. The participants shared their experience and feedback regarding the session and the workshop concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by the participant.
A “Health and Hygiene program for adolescents” was organized on 20th December 2021 in Rosa Mistica Primary School, Kinnikambla for girl students of 5th and 6th standard girl students with the view to educate girls on menstruation hygiene. Dr. Sharel D’souza - Medical officer of MITE, the resource person addressed the problems adolescents face during this period. She educated girls on the ways to manage menstruation differently when they are at home or outside; at home, She also alerted them about the environmental pollution and health hazards associated with them. Various emotional and physical changes that are accompanied by puberty were highlighted. The speaker called upon the students to make use of reusable sanitary products .The members of the HR club shared their experiences boosting confidence among students.
HR Club the Panel discussion to understand the students’ perspective on the New Educational Policy 2020,The discussion carried out by MBA students comprised of focus on the higher education segment of the New Education Policy 2020. Discussions on the new vision for the India’s higher education system and the upgradation to more holistic and multi-disciplinary education took place. The need for creating an optimal learning environment and the importance of teachers training and vocational education was highlighted. The focus on catalyzing quality academic research in all fields through a new National Research Foundation and effective governance and leadership for higher education institutions were emphasized during the discussion.
The HR Club organized a Role play on 11th November, 2021 “Personate” with the view build confidence and enhance decision-making skills. Eight team comprising of seven members actively participated in the event.Fifty-five students were present and provided feedback that this activity helped them to improve their speaking and listening skills, thereby enhancing their creativity and imagination.
The HR Club organized a“Career Guidance Program” with the view to help students choose the right career path based on their educational and professional choices. This program was held in Sarvodaya High School, Kalamundkur one of the 5 villages under the MITE UBA Scheme. The session on career guidance comprised of imparting knowledge on various career options in educational streams such as Commerce, Science and Arts one can pursue on completion of SSLC. The session received a overwhelming response from both HR students and Sarvodaya school students.
2020-21
The HR club students of II year organised a competitive debate for the first year students under “Spin Room”-a platform for debate session. The event intended to enhance knowledge, improve communication skills, identify their strengths and weaknesses and to boost selfconfidence. The first-year batch of students were divided into groups. Each group was asked to pick a specific topic from the lot on the spot. Every team was allotted three minutes and they were asked to appoint a chairperson to introduce the topic. Before the close of the event, the judges declared the names of the winning team based on their evaluation. The batch consisting of 61 students provided a feedback that the program was beneficial in motivating them to speak on a public platform and paved the way for improving their communication skills
The HR club students of II year organised a program for the first year students “Hang a minute”. A topic was given to students on the spot and were asked to talk on the same for a minute. This impromptu speech was conducted with the intention of eliminating stage fear and improving communication skills. The program aimed at triggering the minds to think and speak at the last minute without preparation thereby building leadership skills.
Dr Rameela shekar a mental health professional addressed the gathering on uncertainties students faced during COVID-19 pandemic.She advised them on how to improve one’s physical, emotional and social health during this time. She emphasized the need to talk to someone and to seek professional help in need. to focussing on things within one’s control and to adopt a behaviour compatible enough to cope with discomforts.She concluded the talk with an inspiring message to focus on present and enhance our resilience.
Realm of HR was a session by Mr Sumesh Pillai briefing students on the various verticals of HR .He created awareness on the career prospects of HR which each student must know and be able to choose his area of interest. He briefed the students about his experience as a recruiter and how this field influenced him despite being an introvert. He concluded the session by sharing his insights on why one should choose HR profession and left the audience with a thought-provoking question i.e. What’s in it for you? – Monetarily and Psychologically.
HR club organised a one day workshop on Talent acquistion by Mr Suchin Survarna-Senior Talent Acquistion Specialist,OlAS. The speaker gave a brief overview on how recruitment works in the corporate Sector.His boosted students spirits by outlining "Interaction and Positive attitude as the key elements of HR.Mock sessions,career opportunities ,Do and Dont's in Recruitment,how to design recruitment process was beneficial to the students.
HR club organised a workshop on psychometric tests conducted by a well known psychologist Dr Audrey Pinto. The workshop attempted to familiarize HR students to various personality tests and to understand,perceive self and others better.The students were delightedon gaining practical knowledge on how to conduct these tests and were able to intrepret them accordingly.
HR club organised a workshop on HR scorecard by Mr Dheeraj Shetty- General Manager-Hr,JBF Petrochemicals.The speaker introduced the students to the topic and made them understand its relevance in the organisations.His motivating quote "HR managers have a seat at the leadership table" made them learn that HR today is expected to align its recruitment, compensation, and employee retention strategies to the organizational strategies and HR scorecard is valuable tool to measure them.
senior members of HR club conducted an HR quiz " Speak to LEAD-Evoking HR minds" for 1st year MBA students. This contest was an attempt to familiarise the new comers to concepts of HR and to enhance communication skills. Students found the quiz enjoyable as well as educating.
HR club organised a guest lecture by Mr Santhosh Rao- GM of Toyota Industries Engine India Ltd.on "Current trends in HR in the Automotive Sector" for MBA students.The speaker discussed various aspects of HR and emphasized visioning ability as imperative in Automotive sector.This lively interaction made students aware of Toyota Way of Production & Quality.
HR club students organised a community development program "Career Opportunities in HR" in Holy Rosary English Medium School, Ajekar.The session introduced students to various opportunities available in the field of HR.The reformation of HR ,its challenges,how to cope up with the changes and industry expectations were revealed in the session.The HR team members delivered informative tips on how to build a career in HR,skills and competencies required for HR candidates under the guidance of MBA faculty.
A training on Soft Skills was conducted by HR club students in Thodar Government P.U College,Moodabidri.The community development program intended to equip skills of students in English language.It focused on improvising vocabulary,grammatical knowledge,presentation skills among the students.
HR club students organised a session on Personality development at Jain High School Moodabidri. The program aimed at educating students on the importance of personality development in a career. The students received guidance on how to boost Self-Confidence, will-power ,positive thinking and maintain self-discipline.
HR Club organised a community development program in Shri Venkataramana College, Karkala under the banner" Kaushalya Vikas" with the intent of preparing students for Interviews. The HR club students briefed them on how to prepare for an interview, Resume writing, do's and dont's of interview.The program put forth the skills interviewers look for in students and urged them to enhance their skills especially in communication and helped them boost their self-confidence.
HR club organised an interactive session by Mr Srinivas Rai P-General Manager HR of Himatsingka Seide ,Bangalore on "Industrial Relations and its importance in Corporate Sector".The speaker highlighted on the scarcity of good quality Industrial relations professionals in the Indian Market and stressed on the need to develop strong communication skills - a prerequisite an IR aspirant must possess.He enlightened the students with the help of practical examples and experience on various types of IR approaches for bipartite and tripartite agreements.
HR Club was created with the objective of providing students with breadth and depth of HRM experience and knowledge and to develop management skills by staying abreast with new developments and recent trends in the field of HR. Mr. DivakarKadri, General Manager of CardoliteSpeciality Chemicals India LLP, Mangalore, inaugurated the HR club “ETIM” on 15th September, 2018 and spoke about the importance of HR in an organization and advised the students that “One should not judge a book by its cover”. He also said that being a HR Manager is to be a good leader and one needs to have compassion to listen to the feelings of others. The event included the launching of HR Club logo, Presentation of HR Club objectives by Mahammed Sinan, a Mime show by Sapan and team and a small round of HR Quiz.
Brain Bonanza, a quiz program was conducted with the intention of building strong foundation on HR concepts among the students. This HR Quiz was conducted for the students of I and II MBA. A total of 13 teams registered for the quiz. The preliminary round was conducted on 6th November 2018, out of which 4 teams qualified for the final round. The Quiz Finals was conducted in 3 rounds on 23rd November, 2018 and the winning and the runner-up teams were awarded.
In order to provide the first year MBA students an opportunity to develop management skills by staying abreast with new developments and recent trends in the field of HR and to enable the second year MBA(HR) students to gain insights of interviewing and equip them to be able managers in the corporate world, an mock interview session was conducted where the first year students who were willing to join HR Club were interviewed by the second year students. The interview was conducted on 27th November, 2018 for 34 students in the HR Classroom by the existing members of HR Club and based on the calibre and willingness of the candidates to learn more about HR and contribute to the club, a total of 26 candidates were selected to join the HR Club ETIM.
On 1st December, 2018 a team of II-year MBA students from HR Club visited Guideline Tutorial, Surathkaland gave a lecture on the scope of MBA Globally and spoke about the relevance of HR in the Corporate World. They emphasized the need to be an expert in any subject matter and the importance of Higher education for a successful career and encouraged students to pursue MBA by creating awareness as to how an MBA programme helps an individual to transform and shape to get into the corporate world.
The members of HR Club believe in giving back to the society, the knowledge acquired and learnt in the past one year. On 2nd December, 2018 a team of II-year MBA students from HR Club visited St. Ignatius English Medium School, Paladka on 2th December, 2018 and imparted training on enhancing Presentation Skills among their students.
The members of HR Club organised a training programme with the motive to act as catalysts and make lives better for the ones who are deprived. Therefore, a team of II-year MBA students of HR Club visited Students of Govt. Hr. Pry. School, Garadimajal, Udupi and imparted training on enhancing imparted training on the basics of computers, since the students lacked qualified computer teachers in that school.
Mr. Rakesh U., gave a guest lecture on Communications and Public Relations to the students of II-year MBA on 19th February, 2019. He spoke on the the importance of communication and explained how Public Relations helps in fostering good industrial relations and healthy environment. He then explained the characteristics of good employee communication and also spoke about the employees’ expectations of Public Relations in an organization that included better wages, bonus, job security, career growth, welfare of self and family etc.
On 25th August, 2018 a guest lecture on Talent Management was organized for the students of II-year MBA. Mr. Prabhoda K S, GM HR at Cardolite, Mangalore shared his experience regarding recruitment in his company and explained how HR should work in an organization. He spoke on the topic why talent management is needed and how it helps in an organization when making redesign, compensation and employee development decisions. He also said that it helps in identifying positions in the organization and in analyzing job description and strategic contributions.
Dr. Sandeep Kadirudyavar, HR Manager, Toyota Company delivered a lecture on March 3rd, 2018 for the students of MBA on Balanced Scorecard. Dr. Jayashri Shetty escorted the guest to the dais and welcomed him with a bouquet. Jasmine of I MBA introduced the guest to the gathering.
Dr. Sandeep Kadirudyavarbegan his talk with the brief note on balanced scorecard and its important role in bridging the gap between the sales and the target.
He then asked the students to share their experiences of factory visits. Mr. Sinan of I MBA spoke about his factory visit during his graduation days and explained the various processes that takes place in the furniture manufacturing factory. Dr. Sandeep then spoke about the relationship between a job description and a resume and the importance of having a correct resume and using the right keywords while uploading it on to job portals to enhance employment opportunities. The event ended with a vote of thanks by Jasmine of I MBA.
On Jan 17th, 2018, the HR Club of the Department of MBA organised a lecture on Employee Engagement by Mr. Movin Oliver D’Souza,Manager – HR & Admin for Bharati Defence & Infrastructure Ltd., Mangalore. He studied LLB at SDM Law College, Mangalore, LLM at Pune University, MBA at Bangalore University and MSc. at Mangalore University. Earlier,he worked for Sulfex Fibre Products at Kannur, Kerala.
Prof. Jayadeva Prasad, HOD, MBA escorted the guest to the dais. Shreeraksha of I MBA introduced the guest to the gathering. Mr. Movin Oliver D’Souza began his talk with the brief note on job satisfaction and said that the most difficult task in any company is retaining its employees. He also spoke about the role of employees in the productivity of an organization and gave the example of PatanjaliAyurved Ltd. as to how their employees will be contributing to their future plan of reaching Rs.25000 Cr turnover.He also told as to how an organization can make an employee stay, say & strive for the company by keeping them happy.
He emphasized that the employees have to be made to stick on and speak positive about the company by attracting, mentoring & psychological counselling of the employee. He said that the employees need to internalize the vision, mission & goal of the organizations and one can achieve this by proving the pay & perks according to the designation, entrusting overseas assignments, having a good brand name for the company and giving out the stock options to their employees.
