Care for Environment is one of the Core Values of MITE. MiTE also has adopted a robust Environmental Policy in line with the Values. MITE has a lush-green well-maintained campus that is serene, ecologically responsible and conducive to education.
ECO Club or Ecological Club is a forum for MBA students to come together and work towards protecting our Environment and Ecology. Students plan and execute several programs - both inside and outside the campus- like, Street plays on ecology, spreading awareness about conservation, planting trees, sensitizing young high-school kids on the environment, etc. This Club helps develop softer side of managerial personality in terms of care and concern for Nature. It helps them develop as responsible citizens. Students learn as well as enjoy their learning through these activities.
2023-24
The Eco Club of MBA Department organised the annual ‘Vanamahotsav’ on 10-09-2024 in the Karnataka Public School, Mijar school premises. Head Master Mr. Chandru M N. planted a sapling to symbolically inaugurate the Vanamahotsav program. Students showed great eagerness while planting the saplings of various trees. They were told the importance of each tree that was planted. This activity helped to instill the value of social responsibility in students. More than 50 saplings of fruit and trees were planted.
The Eco Club of MBA Department rganised a talk on climate change and waste management by Ms. Ashwini Bhat, Convenor, ParasarakkaagiNaavu, Dakshina Kannada Chapter, Mangalore. She mentioned that not only is climate change affecting the environment, but also human life. In addition to changes in the natural world, climate change is also causing frightful changes to our biological system. Environmental hazards to human health are becoming more prevalent, including extreme weather, an increased danger of fire and loss of biodiversity. She appealed students to support this initiative to protect environment which they should gift to coming generations.
The Eco Club of MBA Department organised a presentation on evils of plastic and organised a best out of waste comeptetion with an intension of creating awareness about ecology in the minds of students so that they are aware of evils of plastic and sensitive towards ecology which may contribute in small quantity but small efforts may yield big results in the future. Fantabulous ideas were demonstrated using waste materials. The winners of the competition were awarded with certificates.
2022-23
Eco Club along with MITE NSS organised this event as part of green campus initiative. The event began with an eventful speech by Principal Dr. Prashanth C M about importance of trees and their socio-economic effects. Later Principal planted a sapling to symbolically inaugurate the Vanamahotsav program. Students showed great eagerness in planting the saplings of various trees. More than 50 saplings of fruit and trees were planted on that day.
Dr. Ravi D R Mission, chief guest started his session by mentioning about Life – Life style for Environment protection. He elaborated and said, “Mission Life makes the fight against climate change, in which everyone can contribute within their ability. He also focused on the concept of reduce, reuse and recycle which is playing a major role development, economic growth, and sustainability.
The discussion on plasti crain highlighted a recent study revealing that micro plastics, which are minuscule plastic particles, may enter our bodies through respiration and accumulate in organs like the liver and brain. A real case of plastic rain in New Zealand was discussed and explored potential causes, emphasizing that even plastic particle as small as 5 millimetres have infiltrated the food chain, posing a significant threat to human health.
This initiative was part of the Swachhta and Plastic-Free campaign. The primary objectives were to raise awareness about cleanliness and discourage littering on the beaches. Volunteers were equipped with gloves, masks, disposable bags, and cleaning materials. The main goal was to remove plastic waste littered on the beach and washed ashore from the sea.The volunteers worked diligently, collecting various types of plastic waste, which was later handed over to the authorities responsible for waste disposal. The initiative resulted in the collection of a significant amount of plastic waste and left the beach clean and pristine.
The annual event served as a platform to raise awareness about the pressing issue of pollution and its global impact. The event highlighted the grave consequences of pollution, particularly air pollution.To instill awareness, volunteers were organized into ten teams, each tasked with creating innovative posters related to National Pollution Control Day. These posters addressed various forms of pollution, their causes, impacts, and potential solutions.
The presentations and public exhibition were designed to capture the interest of the entire student body. Teams focused on diverse environmental issues such as noise pollution, air pollution, water pollution, industrial waste, plastic pollution, river pollution, and soil pollution.
2021-22

Plastics have eventually turned into a hazard to the environment. The Government of India is taking several initiatives to help the citizens reduce the use of plastics.
For any change to be installed, the first step is to create awareness among the people. The Eco Club of MBA Department, MITE has taken one such initiative and organised a campaign on “Evils of Plastics” on 3rd August 2022, with the objective of educating people about the problems one can face with the use of plastics and how it can be reduced.
The HR students of MBA Department, MITE were a part of this campaign. Informative pamphlets were designed and printed by the students which included the adverse effects of plastics and how it can be reduced.
The target audience of this campaign were the shopkeepers of Moodabidri city. The shopkeepers expressed their opinions and concerns.
The overall program helped the students as well as the audience in understanding the current issues and different opinions of individuals.
With the intention of contributing even the bare minimum to the society, the Eco club of MBA department MITE has come up with an initiative- “Clean city, Clean world” on 3rd August, 2022. The objective of this campaign was to clean, as in pick up plastics and other wastes in the selected part of Moodabidri city. The HR students of MBA department MITE volunteered to participate in this campaign.
The area named Aramane Bagilu in Moodabidri was opted to carry on this campaign and 12 volunteers were a part of this initiative. Three bags of waste were gathered and placed in a location that is convenient for the municipality waste movers to pick it up.
Overall, it was an enlightening experience to find the amount of waste thrown out in the air and how it can harm the animals as well as the society.
The Eco Club of MBA Department, MITE organised a guest talk on “My Houseplant, My Friend” on 27th July 2022 for the 2nd year MBA students.
The speaker of the session was Dhanya Bangera who is the second year MBA student of MITE, Moodabidri and the talk is based on the article that was published in Times of India.
The session involved learning about different “plantfluencers” who are passionate about plants and are the ones who call themselves plant guru or plant parents. They have also helped plant enthusiasts by advising them about installing plants at their homes or how to take care of the plants already there. Also the sessions highlight different plants that a beginner can have at their homes which are easy to maintain and the ways to water and regarding the light requirements that each plant needs.
The intention of this session was to create awareness among the students regarding new trends in terms of home gardening and the people who have marked a difference in the same. It talks about how in the pandemic people searching for companionship found happiness in gardening and found a new hobby or interest. Overall it was an informative session.
2020-21
ECO Club of Department of MBA, MITE celebrated Vanamahotsava on the 5th July 2021. The event was graced by the Principal, Vice Principal, Heads of the Departments, Faculty members, staff members and student volunteers of ECO Club of the institution.
The event began with the address by the Principal Dr. G L Easwara Prasad wherein he highlighted the role of the institutions in contributing to the green ecology by activities such as afforestation. He also mentioned that it is imperative to fight the ever-increasing pollution and the environmental hazards caused by the various human activities.
Later the Principal planted a sapling to symbolically inaugurate the vanamahotsava program. More than 50 saplings were planted on the day by people present at the event.
A special session on Plastic waste – prevention and management was organised by ECO CLUB involving two student panellists who did extensive study on the topic.
The event began with the HOD MBA welcoming all the attendees and giving a brief introduction to issues involved in ECOLOGY in today’s world. He also highlighted the importance of doing research and presenting in forums like ECO CLUB on such important issues.
1st Panellist Sonam Tirkey spoke about plastic and different types of plastics including thermos plastic. She also spoke about the uses and abuses of different types of plastics and how one could manage plastic waste.
2nd Panellist Pratik Shetty spoke about the application of Recycled Plastic and about the Plastic Bitumen Road Process. He also highlighted the Government Initiatives in plastic waste management. He further spoke about how companies like HUL, S.B.I, Nike and Flipkart have taken initiatives in reducing plastic in packaging. He also gave a ten step road to reduce plastic pollution.
The event ended with a fruitful discussion between audience and the panellist.
World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th. A Panel discussion was held by ECO CLUB volunteers of MITE MBA. Each panellist presented their views on different sub themes under the overall topic: “ECOSYSTEM RESTORATION”
ShaliniHegde,1st MBA welcomed the audience and the moderator of the session, Puneeth DV introduced each panel member. Moderator, later started the discussion by speaking about the significance of celebrating World Environment Day. He mentioned that a clean environment is essential for healthy Living and that the more it is ignored, the more it would become polluted with contaminants and toxins which has harmful impact on humans and other animals on the planet. The panellists spoke on different themes like:
1. Erosion Control (Factors Affecting Erosion, Measures to control erosion)
2. Reforestation (Importance, Current status)
3. Removal of Non-Native Species and Weeds (Prevention and Eradication)
4. Ecosystem Services (Ecosystem supports, Ecosystem assessment)
The event ended with a Q&A session and vote of thanks by Dhanya Bangera
During the pandemic times of COVID-19, student members of ECO club organised an online panel discussion on the theme 'Biodiversity' - the theme of World Environment Day- 2020. Panel members presented their views on various environmental issues such as the effect of radio frequencies on birds, deforestation, cruelty on animals, use of plastics and their ill-effects on ecology, etc.
On the theme of 'Environment protection' ECO club members organised a street play at Moodabidri bus stop. Members of the club stressed on the need for saving our environment and urged all the viewers to plant a sapling and save the Mother Earth.
ECO Club members visited Government School Paladka and delivered a talk on the theme' Save trees and save environment'. 60 school children interacted with the club members and exchanged their views on why trees are important to Earth. Idea was to fill kids of impressionable age with positive thoughts.
ECO Club members of MITE MBA enacted a street play at Bus stand and near Nishwitha Towers, Moodabidre to spread awareness among public about Saving trees and water. Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Moddabidre supported the event. The program got good response from the onlookers and the message was effectively conveyed.
ECO Club members visited various shops in Moodabidri to spread awareness about the importance of water conservation, plantation of trees and protection of forests. They also highlighted the ill-effects of use of plastics and urged people to say NO to plastic usage. ECO Club co-ordinator Prof Ajith DMello and faculty member Prof Abhay Kumar accompanied the student volunteers.
ECO Club members ofMITE MBA visited Government School,Paladka on 5th November, 2018. The ECO Club distributed stationery items to the poor and needy children of the school. Club members spoke about recycling of papers and the need for saving trees for future.ECO Club conducts various such programmes on ecological issues and on spreading awareness clean and green environment.
During October, 2018 ECO Club members from the Department of MBA started a new initiative by collecting used and unused papers from the students. The club members spread awareness among student community in the campus about proper utilization of used and unused papers from their note books. ECO club members collected all used and unused books from the students and sold them to a book mart and purchased new books using that revenue. This unique initiative received favorable response from students of MBA. A total of Rs 2500 was generated as a result of this exercise.
ECO CLUB organized the Vana Mahotsava on June12th, 2018 in Adarsha High School, Taccode. Different varieties of plants were procured from the Forest Department and planted at the school premises. The school management and the entire faculty along with the students joined hands in the program. This event was organized to create awareness about conservation of forests and protecting the planet Earth.
23 members of Eco Club were present and actively took part in the program. Prof. Jayadeva Prasad, the HOD of the Department of MBA, Prof. AjithD’Mello, Coordinator of ECO Club, Dr. Jayashri Shetty and Prof. K Abhaya Kumar were present and participated in the great event.
A street play event was organized by the Department for the people of Moodbidri on May 5th, 2018 with the aim of spreading awareness about the benefits of trees and the importance of conservation the forests. 30 Students of 1st Year MBA participated in the event. The street play was enacted at 3 places in and around the Moodbidri bus stop. Prof. Jayadeva Prasad M, HOD of the Department, Prof AjithD’Mello, the Eco Club coordinator, Rotary and Rotaract members of Moodbidri and other faculty were present during the program.
Eco Club members went on to create Environmental awareness among the students of MITE within the campus on 3.10.2017. ECO Club members visited all class rooms of the Institute and impressed upon students to adopt eco-friendly lifestyle. The program was well appreciated by all in the campus.
ECO CLUB of MITE coordinated by the MBA Department planted different varieties of plants at Govt school Mastikatte under the guidance of Faculty coordinator Prof. Akash S and the staff members of the school.
This program was conducted on Sept. 23rd, 2017 to build an awareness about afforestation among the students of Masthikatte School as well as the members of ECO CLUB, MITE. The club members, led by student coordinators Mr. Thilak and Mr. Ifrar, took active part in the program.
The inauguration of Eco Club of MITE was conducted by the Department of MBA on September23rd, 2017 at MITE Auditorium. This was inaugurated by Mr. Bhaskar B, Asst. Conservator of forests at Kudremukh National Park. The main motto behind this club is to build awareness and inculcate a sense and commitment among students and public to protect the environment and keep their surrounding clean.
During his inaugural address, Mr. Bhaskar B spoke about the conservation of forest and the importance of safeguarding the resources which would otherwise vanish down the line. He also briefed the members on the activities going on in the wild life sanctuaries and the measures that are being undertaken by them in order to set things right. It was an interactive session lasting one and a half hours wherein doubts of students were cleared on various issues pertaining to conservation.
The Department of Business Administration under the banner of Eco Club organized a Street Play on Environment Protection on June 22nd, 2017 between 11.00 AM and 1.00 PM at Moodbidri in connection with the World Environment Day.
A team of MBA students comprising of Bharath HS, Geethanjali, Megha, Sreerag, Arun Kumar, Nikhil M, Amruthraj and Pratheeksha enacted the play at 3 strategic locations in Moodbidri town i.e. Opposite to Nishmitha Towers, Mosque Road and Bus Stand attracting a few hundred people. The show was conducted with an objective of creating awareness towards environment protection, saving of trees, conserving water, managing organic and inorganic wastes, etc. The street show was highly appreciated by the pedestrians and they were quite delighted with the enthusiasm displayed by the students of MITE.
