Department of Management Studies organises various programs by inviting guests from the industry to give exposure to practical challenges that the industry is facing and to give an interactive opportunity for better learning. Intending to give industry experience, the department organised a workshop on the banking domain to give an insight into the banking industry, career opportunities and the future of the banking industry.
Session 1: Mr. K. Parameshwara Adiga, Deputy General Manager(Retired), Corporation Bank spoke on the concept RBI operations and its impact said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is India’s central bank and regulatory organisation in charge of banking regulation. It controls the country’s major payment networks, monetary policy implementation, issuing currency, etc which controls the entire economy, and works as a financial regulator. He appealed to students to take up a career in banking as the profession is very challenging once they start climbing the ladder in career and provides a wide range of opportunities like FOREX, Insurance, Stock market, etc. which makes the profession interesting.
Session 2: Mr. Prakash N Rao, Senior Manager (Retired),Corporation Bank spoke on the topic FOREX trading and Market and said all the nations are dependent on each other. So border movement of products has become mandatory. The challenge of FOREX comes picture here as each country has a different monitory system. There is a FOREX understanding between two countries where exchange prices need to be decided, exchange mechanisms to be decided, currency exchange platforms need to be created and so on. He went on to say about various types of transactions like capital account transactions which cover transactions related to assets and liabilities outside India, External commercial borrowings by individuals, government, NRI deposits, Disinvestment, etc,
Session 3: Mr. M. Damodar Kamath, Chief Vigilance Officer (Retd.),Indian Bank addressed students on the topic Preventive Vigilance for safety. He said today banks have extended services into categories like health and general insurance, mutual funds, D’mat accounts, money transfers, debit cards, credit cards, etc. which makes banking a versatile institution and has made the system a very advanced organization. The advanced system is no less than an opportunity for employees who think of fraud, misappropriation, corruption, willful negligence, etc. which has made the Reserve Bank of India introduce a Vigilance department which makes sure the banking system operates as per standard guidelines. He said rigorous training programs are organized about rules and regulations to be followed and kinds of punishments for various levels of breach of rules, frequent transfers, rotation of staff, strong internal systems, and whistleblowers.
Session 4: Mr. Balwinder Singh,Senior Manager, Karnataka Bank spoke on the concept AI in Banking Operations and said AI in banking is used based on the customer experience of the software based on data collected by tracking market trends and uses its intelligence in identifying customer tastes and preferences at the same time uses its intelligence to solve problems as well to process, analyse the data using predictive analysis and process automation. A quick business innovation, enhanced security for banking services, fast acquisition of new customers is happening because of AI.
Session 5: Ziaul Khan,Senior Manager, Karnataka Bank addressed students on "Career opportunities in Banking" and said developments in technology could see some jobs disappearing in the next five years Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and robotics could reduce the need for staff in roles such as back-office functions or any other repetitive activity. Although there has been hiring, the nature of the skill sets required is changing with a lot more focus on the front-end talent & technology side of Banking. The technological development, which has made banking easier, has also led to a slowdown in the hiring of staff at banks. Increasing Footprint is not just the number one priority for all leading banks but Increasing reach and distribution is the priority through digital channels.
The recent banking workshop provided a plethora of innovative ideas, offering a deep dive into banking operations, FOREX trading, Vigilance operations, Uasage of AI in banking and career opportunities. Through comprehensive discussions and interactive sessions, students gained lot of valuable practical insights. A two-day International Conclave on 'Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0 – Application in Business Management' took place on March 3, 2023. The event drew widespread acclaim and active participation from both academic and industrial sectors, affirming its significance.
Inaugural Session: The conclave kicked off with an inaugural ceremony graced by the presence of Dr. Madhusudan Singh, Head of Artificial Intelligence at L&T Technologies Bangalore, who served as the esteemed chief guest. Mr. Praveen Kamath, General Manager - HR for Global Strategic Hiring at WIPRO, shared valuable insights into Human Resource Management, highlighting the growing role of data science and Artificial Intelligence in talent acquisition, learning and development, and performance management.
Expert Sessions - Day 2: The second day commenced with a captivating talk by Prof. Shanti Sekhar, an academician hailing from various renowned universities. Prof. Sekhar underscored the significance of Data Science and Industry 4.0 while shedding light on the emergence of Industry 5.0 as a new revolution in the business domain.
Mr. Balram Ramamurthy, Director at Renewable Virginia and Georgia Transformers, USA, delivered an engaging lecture. He provided a detailed account, backed by several case studies, of how Artificial Intelligence is poised to reshape the future of business. He emphasized that these changes would occur sooner than anticipated, transforming the business landscape at an unprecedented pace.

MITE is committed to providing students with practical industry insights, and recently conducted a Workshop on the Insurance domain to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world experience. This workshop consisted of five informative sessions, each featuring distinguished speakers from the insurance industry.
Each session was meticulously curated, featuring distinguished speakers from the insurance industry, who shared their wealth of experience and knowledge. From quantifying insurance needs to exploring diverse insurance products, from discussing career prospects to understanding the pivotal role of customer experience, these sessions encompassed a wide spectrum of topics.
In Session 1, Mr. Ruben Menezes, Director of Associated Financial Advisors Pvt. Ltd, Mangalore, discussed the "Quantum of Insurance." He emphasized the importance of understanding insurance policies and calculating the optimal coverage required for individuals' financial security.
Session 2, led by Mr. Santhosh J from HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd., Mangalore, delved into "Navigating Insurance Products and Their Purpose." The Marketing Conclave 2022, organized by MITE, that took place on September 9th and 10th, 2022 offered valuable insights and knowledge students. The inaugural ceremony on September 9th featured Dr. M S Ganesha Prasad, Principal of the institution, as the president. Dr. Prasad stressed the importance of embracing new-age technology like digital marketing and analytics in today's competitive market. Dr. Sheela Siddappa is the Principal data Scientist at Kyndryl who has vast experience in the field of Data Science. She explained in detail how data science works in the field of Retail. She explained the use of Artificial Intelligence in
formulating sales strategies. She explained the use of Robots in the field of Agriculture and cited examples of how data analysis helps in building and running smart cities. She highlighted the role of data science in cost reduction and profit maximization in business. She further mentioned that curiosity and the ability to ask the right question and get the appropriate answer is the key tothe use of data science in business.
SESSION 2: PURPOSE IN LIFE -BY Ms. SHAWAR BANU
Ms ShawarBanu impressed upon the students that there has to be a set purpose in everybody’s life and listed the do’s and don’t’s to achieve that purpose. She emphasized that one has to develop confidence and keep convincing oneself that WE CAN DO IT. We must explore and find out who we are and not underestimate ourselves. She advised students to imagine, explore and learn.She mentioned that self-doubt is a hindrance in attaining one’s purpose and one must not engage in itbut believe in self. The speaker added that “we are blessed to be born in this era” as people are tech-savvy and every process is simple and quick.Therefore one must constantly upskill and reskill to survive in the corporate world. She appealed to students to do their strive toward their aspirations and be happy rather than pondering over what others say and be unhappy.

SESSION 3: FACING INTERVIEWS -Mr V S S PAVAN KUMAR
In his brief session, Mr Pavan Kumar gave an overview of how an Interview process happens and what the preparations should be for a student. He told students to be quite confident and expressive in interviews. He spoke about how to make impressive first impressions during self-introduction. One needs to listen carefully, understand and then explain the answers lucidly. He said that each interviewer is different and one must strive hard to impress them. Being different and positioning oneself as unique is very important in the interview process so as to increase the chances of getting hired. He advised students to explore theirstrengths and weaknesses and work upon them. He gave the mantra “Knowledge is Power and Wisdom is Wealth”.
SESSION 4: HOW TO WIN AT THE WORKPLACE BY MR SANTHOSH RAO
Mr Santhosh Rao spoke about the changing scenario in Technologies in the industry today. He stressed that HIGH-TOUCH (People skills) is as important as HI-TECH (Technology) in today’s times. He said that building relationships at the workplace is important but difficult as people are always on the computers or telephones. He told that one must be multi-functional and be easily adaptive to any kind of situation and be willing to take up work from a completely different domain. He further highlighted the importance of KASH – Knowledge, Attitude, Skills and Habits. One must updateknowledge with changing times, developa positive Attitude to succeed, have the necessary skills to work in diverse scenarios and have professional habits. He also spoke about a new concept called Adversity Quotient which is one’s ability to fight adversities and win. He advised students to prepare for interviews seriously and do the homework properly and improve their communication skills.

The speaker Mr Praveen Kamath started the session by saying that Failures in talent management are an ongoing source of pain for executives in modern organizations. He defined Talent management as a constant process that involves attracting and retaining high-quality employees, developing their skills, and continuously motivating them to improve their performance.He stressed that talent management is vital for the survival of companies as it capitalizes on employees -the most important asset of your company. Talent management helps you maximize the value of employees. The speaker discussed in depth the advantages of talent management in the 21st century. Firstly it makes anorganisation competitive i.e by hiring and developing talented employees, your organization becomes stronger and better prepared to face changes and risks.It drives innovation. Talented employees can find ways to harness the capabilities of new tools and solve problems or come up with original ideas. It helps form productive teams as anThe appropriate talent management strategy will allow you to form a more productive team. It decreases turnover when employees feel valued at a company, when they know they will have plenty of opportunities to grow in the business, they are less likely to seek work elsewhere. It leads to strong employer branding and motivates others to grow.

The Department of Business Administration organised an Orientation program to the batch of 2021 on 18th of February 2022 followed by Induction program during 22-26th February 2022. This is an annual program conducted for the fresh batches of MBAs in order to give them a proper Orientation to the MBA program at MITE.
The Master of Ceremony Prof. Pradeep Kumar from the Department delivered the welcome address. Welcoming the new students and dignitaries, Prof. Pradeep gave a brief introduction of the dignitaries and speakers of the day.
The Principal, Dr.Ganesha Prasad briefed the new students about history and background of the college as well about the facilities and amenities inside the campus. He highlighted the achievements and the international/national awards won by the students of the college and MBA students in particular. He went on to explain the various industry tie-ups of the institutions and also elaborated on the opportunities these tie ups provide to the students to sharpen their skills. He concluded his talk by highlighting the progress of the institution since inception.
Prof Jayadeva Prasad, Head, Department of Business administration gave an overview of the MBA program and explained to the fresh students what to expect and what is expected of them. He further explained in detail the role of a manager and the key aspects of managerial personality. He highlighted that Personality Development is the most crucial part of MBA education and every student must focus on that in addition to acquiring class room teachings.
Mr. Rajesh Chouta, Chairman of the RajalaxmiEducation Trust in his thought provoking speech, emphasised the importance of Management education for the development of the society. He urged the future managers to make full use of the various opportunities coming up in the next two years to develop one’s management and entrepreneurial skills. He reiterated the need to have a bigger vision than just making simple career. He informed that having a larger vision of being a job creator is more relevant to future managers. He said, the goal of the manager has to be towards uplifting the society rather than just to be engaged in a 9 to 5 job. He further added that it is important to focus on future career right from day 1 and be focussed.

The technologies can help organisations to reduce the operating cost. The traditional methods of running business will cost huge amount of money whereas the same job, when run through a software, will bring drastic drastic reduction in cost which will enable the business houses to make more profit as well as manage the industry for a long time
Cloud computing has brought dramatic changes in the industry. With the increased number of customers the companies, these days need more and better service providing companies. Cloud computing has brought the changes which many industries were looking for. The development of one such technology has enabled the organisations to run businesses effectively and remain more customer- friendly.
The internet and social media has changed view of the business men to see the world and also the way businesses happen. The development of and introduction of crypto currency has made impact on the way online business run. The invention and development of block chain technologies have made one such thing possible to the world.
He advised students to be aware of such technologies which will provide many opportunities to MBA students. Being future managers, MBA students need to know basics of these technologies thatwill help in smooth functioning.

Mr. Joshua David appealed students to work hard and get good marks in their academic life as it is the first step to be successful in their career. He said the
Hardworking and smart working should be learnt in the institution itself because they do not get chance to experiment in their career. Is it very important to utilise library, reading magazines, news paper, novels and any other material available in the college library.
He also requested students to participate in all the opportunities like fests, paper presentation competition, sports day, cultural day etc,. Whichever comes their way should be utilised and take experience from it so that the attitude of winning in learnt and lose is experienced and leant lessons from it. An interactive session held by Mr. Pradeep Kote which gave lot of knowledge to students in planning their career. It opened a new dimension for students in terms of career selection, requirements of any career and success in career. The guest focused his discussion on career selection as it is the first and important step for any student. He also discussed requirements of various career options and attitudinal differences between careers.
He suggested students to focus on learning of new technology as these days every job is run through some or the other technology. The upcoming technologies will eliminate few jobs, industries and at the same will create new industries as well as lot of job opportunities. Students need to focus on upcoming industries so that their career can go to peak when the industry is growing. He suggested students to update themselves with current affairs and told them to notice the changes happening in the industry.

The college life plays utmost importance to climb the ladder of corporate life said by Mr. Harsha. He continued to say there are plenty of things a student must learn in campus to be successful in corporate life. He insisted students take 2 years of MBA as a beginning of corporate life, spend time as an employee, work like a employee but without salary. The attitude what developed here will be crucial in their career. He continued to say there are plenty of opportunities for freshers but since students are not aware of it, they fail to take advantage of it. He requested students to keep researching about various career options, various industries and industry specific job opportunities, the job requirements, preparations required for every job etc,. The hard work what goes in here will become foundation stone and student will be able to build their career upon

Mr. Murthy being fitness coach urged students to be fit mentally as well physically. A physical well being is important students to focus in class, helps in maintaining constant academic work etc,. Today, a modern lifestyle makes people lazy and casual, which is not a good sign for youths. Fitness teaches consistency in any work because fitness requires constant workouts and that is what is needed in life to e successful.
Ms. Kasthuri spoke about how to be successful in life. She gave examples of Ramayana and Mahabharatha and said in Mahabharatha success manthra of Arjuna is constant hard work. Luck favours the prepared. So prepration is important in life. He conducted few activities, taught few exercises so that students can be fit. The session ended with question and answers

A practical demonstration session through activity was held by Mr. Shivaprasad for 1st year MBA students on various management concepts. A corporate life will be full challenges, which has to be solved through patient and creative thinking by managers. The guest created a hypothetical situation in the session and made students to realise about situations where they need to utilise their thinking ability, patience and at the same time to work with real time data.
Many activities were held throughout the day for students to demonstrate their ability and understand the situations. He pressurised students thinking ability and made them to realise their true potential. The session was a eye opener for students about their capability and they learnt to give their best all the time.
17.02.2022 Workshop on HR Analytics using Advanced Excel
The Career Guidance Cell of MBA Department, MITE organized a workshop on HR Analytics using advanced Excel on 17th of February, 2022. The workshop was conducted by Prof. Girish. M, Principal of Trisha College of Commerce and Management, Mangalore. The resource person has an enormous amount of experience in his field. The workshop was conducted for the second year MBA-HR students to help them gain some practical applications of the subject. The session began with Sahana introducing the resource person and welcoming him. She gave a brief on Prof. Girish’s achievements and experience. The welcoming session was closed by welcoming all the other present in the session including HOD of MBA Department, faculty members and the students.
The session began with Prof. Girish brushing the students with basics of excel. It highlighted mostly on the different tabs and function available in excel and how it can be put in use. He gave them exercises on the concepts that he taught and asked them to solve it by themselves. Prof. Girish also pointed at some of the shortcut keys to use these functions which can make their work easier.
The workshop has given the students a lot of extra information than just academics and will also come in handy in their work-life. The resource person has also pointed out on its importance and how it can be used. The session was concluded by Sahana thanking Prof. Girish for making time from his busy schedule and also thanked HOD of MBA Department for providing this opportunity, all the faculty members and the participants of the workshop.

She has domain expertise in Finance, Business Process Analysis and Training & Development and has over a decade of teaching experience. She teaches Managerial Economics, Financial Accounting & Management and Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. SrilankaLahari has also presented papers in International Journal pertaining to Women Entrepreneurs.
With the intension of enhancing the knowledge of personal investment, MBA department of MITE has organised a workshop on Capital Market Awareness. MITE faculty and MBA students took part in this workshop. Mr. Pratik Shetty welcomed the guest speaker and audience for the program.
Ms. LahariSagi started the discussion with the concept of investments, earnings and expenditure. Difference between savings and investments were discussed in detail. The growth of Sensex , the compounding impact of equity investments, inflation beating capacity of equity and the increasing consumer demand of the country were discussed in support of equity investment. She discussed about the user-friendly portal of BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange). The responsibility of an investor to do the due diligence of any investment product and the support of BSE in this regard was also the part of discussion.

14.01.2021 Orientation 2021
The Department of Business Administration organised an Orientation program to the batch of 2020 on 14th of January followed by Induction program during 15-19th January 2021. All the events in the programme were held online in view of the existing pandemic situation.
The master of ceremony Prof. Verina D’Souza began the Orientation program on the 14th Jan 2021. Welcoming the new students and dignitaries, Prof. Jayadeva Prasad M – HOD of Dept of Management Studies, MITE gave a brief introduction of the speakers and he also explained the schedule of the Orientation programme. He presented the welcome address and gave a professional start to the event.
The Principal, Dr. G. L. Easwara Prasad briefed the new students about history and background of the college as well about the facilities and amenities inside the campus. He highlighted the achievements and the international/national awards won by the students of the college. He went on to explain the various industry tie-ups of the institutions and also elaborated on the opportunities these tie ups provide to the students to sharpen their skills. He concluded his talk by highlighting the progress of the institution since inception.
Mr. Praveen Kamath – General Manager HR & Head global delivery enablement at Wipro who was the chief guest of the function congratulated the new batch of students for their decision to pursue higher education. He explained the importance of MBA education in the industry and informed how an MBA can contribute and grow in the corporate. He advised four mantras to the students and elaborated how regular practice of these techniques can bring about a change in the overall personality of the students that fits into the expectations of the corporate.
Alumni play a crucial role in the process of learning and development of the students of any institution. Mr. Bharat H S Batch of 2015-17, currently working for Unacademy, Bangalore as Senior Business Development Associate recalled the happy times he spent in the campus during his college days. He spoke about the support available from the members of the faculty for self-development.
Ms. Roshini Menezes, other alumni of the institution belonging to 2014-16 batch shared her experiences of life at MITE and how learning in these two years contribute to the career development of an individual.
Mr. Rajesh Chouta, Chairman of the Rajalaxmi Education Trust in his thought-provoking speech, emphasised the importance of Management education for the development of the society. He urged the future managers to make full use of the various opportunities coming up in the next two years to develop one’s management and entrepreneurial skills. He reiterated the need to have a bigger vision than just making simple career. He informed that having a larger vision of being a job creator is more relevant to future managers. He said, the goal of the manager has to be towards uplifting the society rather than just to be engaged in a 9 to 5 job.
Vote of thanks was rendered by Prof. Pradeep Kumar. The inaugural function concluded on a very positive note.
15-01-2021 – Induction Program Day 1
After the successful completion of the Orientation program, a four-day online program was conducted to induct the students.
On 15th January 2021, Dr. Jayashri Shetty, conducted webinar through Google Meet and explained all the academic requirements. The University norms and academic requirements as per the University was explained in detail.
The next session was conducted by Prof Abhaya Kumar.K. He spoke about the activities of the department under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA). He explained the activities conducted during the previous year, the management learning to the students by these activities. He also spoke about the proposed activities for the current year batch.
The final session on the day was conducted by Mr. Dheeraj Sheety – General Manager – HR, JBF Petrochemicals. He motivated the students by giving examples of extraordinary success achieved by ordinary people. He also gave advice about the expectation from Management graduates and how to have a smooth transition from campus to corporate.
16-01-2021 – Induction Program Day 2
Mr. Chetan Prabhu – Manager, E&Y, Bangalore addressed the students through a webinar on day 2. He spoke about corporate qualities that the budding managers need to possess. He spoke about various options a finance role has in the corporate world. Mr. Chetan went on to explain the different operations that has been done at a tax consulting firm and how the knowledge of MBA helped in growing up the corporate ladder.
The second session on the day was held by Prof. Varun about the activities at MITE with regards to college fests. He explained the achievements of students of MITE at various intercollegiate fests. Numerous awards won by the senior batch acted as a motivation for the fresh batch of students to achieve big, have fun and gather knowledge in the process. Prof Varun explained the importance of participating in these cultural fests and the experience and knowledge that can be gained from these activities. He also explained, with his own examples from student life, about participating and learning from intercollegiate fests.
18-01-2021 – Induction Program Day 3
Dr. Suphala Kotian, professor, AJ Institute of hospital management and External councillor of MITE addressed the new batch of students on the penultimate day. She gave a lot of tips to students about managing in the tough times of pandemic. She gave tips to cope with the online classes and how to get adjusted to new situation. She motivated the students to stay focussed and positive. She highlighted the importance of maintaining a fixed schedule and stick to it. All the students greatly benefited from it.
The second session of the day was about the Marketing club and other activities. Prof. Pradeep Kumar B R conducted this session. He introduced the students to all the activities that are generally conducted by the marketing club. He informed about the case study competition and the learning students get by participating in it.
The third session of the day was by Prof. Surjit Ram. He spoke about the importance of MBA Education. He reiterated the importance of MBA in personal life, career progress, job opportunities and how one can improve the ability to manage things by learning MBA.
19-01-2021 – Induction Program Day 4
Prof. Jayadeva Prasad. M, Head-Dept of Management, MITE was the speaker on the day four of the induction program. He spoke about the topic “Two years of MBA Journey”. He lucidly explained to students how MBA is an experience more than a degree. How students have to experience management in all the activity they do, learn from the activities more than from the books.
The next speaker was Mr. Sheraz Hussain – Managing Director, Sunshine Traders, Moodbidri. Being a successful entrepreneur himself, he spoke about the attitude and skills required to succeed as an entrepreneur. How patience plays a big role to succeed as an entrepreneur was highlighted in his talk. Mr. Sheraz is also an Alumnus of MITE and he shared his experiences of MBA life.
The third session of the day was by Prof. Verina DSouza. She spoke about the various outreach programs conducted by MBA dept of the institution. The activity under the banner of HR club, Eco club, CSR Club were explained by her. She highlighted how invaluable management lessons are learnt while doing many activities and how traits such as compassion, ethics are important to be a successful manager

23rd August, 2019 A Faculty Development Program was conducted by the department of MBA on the topic “Advanced Trading Strategies in Futures & Options”. The program was conducted to update the under graduate teachers knowledge on derivatives trading strategies. 41 Faculty members from various under graduate colleges in and around Mangalore have participated in the program. Dr. Krishna Kanchan, Principal of SDPT First Grade College Kateel inaugurated the program, Dr. Easwara Prasad; Principal of MITE presided over the inaugural function.

Mr. Dhaval Started his session with the concepts of options and futures. He explained the working mechanism process of these two derivatives. He also discussed the following basic concepts with respect to option contracts.
1. Call option (or calls) - the right but not the obligation to buy an underlying asset during a particular period of time.
2. Put option (or puts) - the right but not the obligation to sell an underlying asset during a particular period of time.
3. Exercise the option- It invokes the rights contracted
4. Exercising price (or striking price) - the price at which the buyer can purchase or sell the underlying instrument.
5. Expiration date - date at which rights to exercise the option cease to exist.
6. Option Premium- the price of an option
7. Exercise types: - American: The right could be exercised any date before the expiration date. -European: The right could be exercised only on the day of expiration date.
Further he started his discussion on various trading strategies on futures and options. Long and Short position strategies in futures to safeguard the portfolio were discussed in the beginning. Later different option trading strategies like Bull spread, Bear Spread, Butterfly Spread, Strips, straps, straddles and strangles were discussed in detail. He concluded his session saying option trading is risk free, if we enter with complete knowledge on these strategies. Majority will lose their money because they are nor investors with 100 % knowledge on derivatives trading strategies. Participants had healthy discussions during the session as well as during the question and answer session.
“Exchange Traded Currency Derivatives” - Session-2

He explained about the Stock which represents the financial strength of the company and the basic introduction about the derivatives. The focus in his session was on application of derivatives in the commodity and currency markets. He started his session with the concept of hedging and managing the price risks in different sectors. Following strategies were discussed during his session.
1. Bull put spread-
It is executed when we have bullish outlook in stock/ Index. Lower strike put outflow is funded by higher strike in money put. It is a net credit strategy.
Merits:
· It helps to generate sustainable income.
· It can be used to repair loss making long put buy selling higher.
Demerits:
· Identifying clear area of support and resistance is essential
· If the stock closes below the strike put, one can lose money.
2. Bear call spread-
It is a bearish income strategy that could be executed when one expects the stock to find resistance at higher level. It is executed when we have bearish outlook in stock/Index.
Merits:
· Helps to generate income sustain income if the view goes correct.
· Can be used to repair loss making long call by selling lower ITM call
Demerits:
· Identifying clear area of support and resistance is essential.
· If the stock closes above higher strike, one can lose money.
On 3.8.18 The Faculty Development Programme on Derivatives Decoded began with the inauguration by Prof. Manoj Louis, Secretary, MUCTA. In his inaugural address, Prof. Manoj Louis spoke about the need for conducting the FDPs and its advantages to the Faculty members and their students.
It was followed by a Key Note Address on the Role of Financial Derivatives in Managing Risks by Prof. Ram Balasubramanian. He explained the various derivatives and the risks involved in the current financial scenario.
The first session was conducted by Mr. K. Abhaya Kumar on Forwards and Futures. The session began with the meaning and basics of Derivatives and the different types of derivatives such as Forward Contracts & SWAP, Futures, Options. Mr. K. Abhaya Kumar then took up Forwards in detail and explained its mechanism and Payoff with an example. He then gave the limitations and the features of the futures and also the differences between forwards and futures were explained. The session ended with the question answer round from the participants.
The second session on Options began post lunch. It was conducted by Mr. Jayadeva Prasad M, the Head of the Department, Business Administration. He began the session with the definition of Options and its various types were explained effectively as to how the Call and Put Option works differently. The session ended with an explanation on the different advantages and disadvantages of Options.
The last session on Swaps was conducted by Mr. Ajith D’Mello. He began the session by saying what is a SWAP and told about the different types of SWAPS in the market. He then explained the benefits out of SWAP using an example of two firms borrowing on Floating and Fixed Rate and also showed the working of SWAP and its cashflows using the Payoff Diagram.
The Faculty Development Programme ended with the Feedback session by the participants. All the 3 participants who gave their feedback said that the FDP was effective and encouraged to conduct more of such programmes. The feedback was also taken from all the participants in the written format and finally a group photograph was taken with all the participants and the resource persons. Participation certificates were distributed and at last refreshments were served to everybody.
The Department of MBA organized a splendid Orientation Programme to formally welcome first year students of MBA Batch 2018-19 on 11 October, 2018. This Orientation Programme was designed to support new students as they begin their MBA journey at Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering. It was to give the new entrants a good feel of the family culture at MITE and understand what to expect during their time in the campus.
The Principal, Dr. G. L. Easwara Prasad acquainted new students to the background, vision, growth, culture and achievements of Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering.Mr. Rajesh Chouta in his thought-provoking speech emphasized the role of management education in the overall development of future managers. He spoke about the importance of unlearning and relearning in student life.Prof. Jayadeva Prasad M., gave an informative address and pointed out that students should be equipped with multi-skills, right attitude and time management and must desire for learning and positive restlessness for self-improvement.
The second day of the orientation programme had session from Mr. Muhammad Azan Patni, who is an entrepreneur. He shared several success and failure stories of his life with the students and inspired them to take up entrepreneurship.
The third day of orientation programme had sessions from Mr. Dheeraj Shetty and Mr. AbhijithKarkera. Mr. Dheeraj Shetty, General Manager- HR, IR and Admin of JBF Petrochemicals Ltd., gave a talk on rational decision making and interview etiquettes. Mr. AbhijithKarkera spoke on communication skills and conducted activities that helped students enhance their confidence.
On the fourth day of the orientation programme, the first session was taken over by Mr. Sandeep Bolar, Area Manager at Exide Life Insurance. He gave a talk on Marketing, discussed various concepts of marketing and customer satisfaction. The second session was conducted by Mr. Rakshith P. Shetty, who spoke about building confidence and self-appraisal. The next session was taken by Mr. Ajith D’Mello, who gave brief introduction about various club activities and running projects as well as paper presentations. The last session was taken over by Mr. Ravish K. B., who gave a talk on finance service sector in India and skills required to enter into financial industry.
The Department of Management organized its Mega Event of the Year, “Women’s Entrepreneurship Summit 2018” on 2nd and 3rd November 2018 which had 13 successful Women Entrepreneurs under one roof. The event was based on the theme - ‘Marching Ahead- The Power Within’. The event was inaugurated by Ms. Sarita Santhosh, The Founder of Sunshine Travels &Holidays. Dr. G. L Eshwara Prasad, Principal, Prof. Jayadeva Prasad M, HOD-MBA, Ms. Jaya Shetty, Program Coordinator were present. Ms. Sarita Santhosh addressed the gathering and said that this summit has significance for future managers and is not just meant for women but also to men, as entrepreneurship is not an easy art for anyone to take as a profession.
Panel Discussion 1: WomenEntrepreneurship – Roles and Challenges
Ms. Sarita Santhosh, Ms. Ritu Chabria Sah (Founder Partner of Vanassara Food Pvt. Ltd.), Ms. Supriya R Kamath (Managing Partner at Uttam Agro Industries), Ms. Maithri Chandrashekar (Centre head at Eurokidz Manipal) and Ms. Harsha Kamath (Managing Partner at L G Industries) were the speakers. All the speakers predominantly spoke about their life and business.
Ms. Sarita said, to be a leader, you need to be an exemplary human being. When you are an entrepreneur you become an inspirational instance to your team, clients, customers. Every step you take should reflect this thought. For women, marriage or any other situational change should not be a restriction. She also said that women have the in-born characteristics of meticulousness, sincerity and empathy, therefore women can be equally competent as men.
Ms. Supriya Kamath said, Gender discrimination, patriarchal society has all quite diminished and women are treated equally. However, cultural reconstruction is required for uplifting of women’s status. She also recalled how people discouraged her initially but her success brought changes in their mindset. Shethen urgedthe students to be courageous and take risks.
Ms. Maithri said that women start realizing the importance of leadership when they lose their identity within four walls and engage in family life. To be identified, one needs to come out of their comfort zone and start living in the situations that ecosystem creates and tackle the challenges of the society.
Ms. Harsha said that an entrepreneur should never expect anything, the situations and difficulties are always different and entrepreneurship is about overcoming those difficult situations. She said that an Entrepreneur’s life is not explanatory, rather it is self-discovery.
Panel Discussion 2: Women Entrepreneurship – My Journey.
Speakers were Ms. Poornima Prajwal Shetty (Co-founder of LOL Studios), Ms. Shwetha (Director of Anirvedha Resource Centre), Ms. Shipra Rai (Managing partner at Spindrift & Thyme restaurant) and Ms, Komal S Prabhu (Chief operating officer at Maharaja Restaurant).
Ms. Poornima said that Business competition is always your friend who makes you understand what your loss is and doing a proper research before starting up a business is crucial.
Ms. Shwetha who is into the service sector,said that one should follow their passion and be prepared to take any risk for that passion, and she being a psychologist faced many challenges strongly as she believed in her goal and therefore,she could be a successful entrepreneur and serve the society.
Ms. Shipra said, Women must be courageous enough to follow their dreams, and being a business person is not just about being a master but also a person who has vision about consumers perception. She also said that working in corporate is slow motion whereas entrepreneurship is fast track. In entrepreneurship, facing problems every day is like firefighting.
Ms, Komal said Everybody is rooted with their own strength,one needs to just look for it. She said that she never thought that her life was difficult because then it would be. From a social family she was married into a conservative family and spent a few years of marriage in the kitchen. This made her bring her inner strength out. She also said that entrepreneurship is difficult but one can create a world for themselves in there.
Panel Discussion 3: Women Entrepreneurship – Beginner’s Guide.
Speakers were Ms. Lakshmi M Rao (Managing Partner at Manjunath Rubber), Ms. Christabel D’Souza (Business Manager at Flora travels), Ms. Mariam Mohiudeen (Founder of Baker’s Treat from Mariam’s Kitchen) and Ms. SulajKini (Managing Partner at Bell Paints).
Ms. Lakshmi said that she took up the business after her husband’s death and initially no one respected her. She also said that handling business is all about taking risks. At first,she was not ready to do that and her profit margin went on shrinking. Later, her team of managers helped her a lot and now they are successful andare going to diversify their set-up as well.
Ms. Christabel said that her father started the business and tourism has been her passion, and she learnt the work culture from her dad. She said that, one won’t face disappointments when they expect negativesto happen. She initially ventured the field by working under others and then took up her father’s company wherein experience taught her to be confident. She then said that, one should be able to run the business without anyone and that is entrepreneurship.
Ms. Mariam said, thinking creatively and according to the preferences of people will help in developing the relationships and entrepreneurship does not depend on size of the organization, rather creativity and innovation is significant.
Ms. Sulaj said,Discipline, Punctuality and Knowledge are the keys to success for an entrepreneur. She also said that, to be a successful entrepreneur one should dedicate themselves to the commitments and hard work can only help in attainment of goals.
A two-day workshop was conducted on Human resource practices by Mr. Praveen Kamath- General Manager & Global Head. This was arranged on 15th and 16th October 2018 for the s.tudents of 2nd year MBA (HR). The speaker covered key areas of HR practices such as Recruitment, Training, Performance appraisal, compensation and benefits, and conflict resolution. A practical session on components of compensation was also conducted to familiarize MBA students with the compensation package and its calculation.
Mr. Praveen Kamath enlightened the students on what firms are measuring today and the importance of strategic alignment in an organization. He introduced them to recruitment metrics with practical examples from the corporate field. He underscored “technological innovation “as the need of the hour for the survival of any organization. He introduced the concept of HR analytics and dealt with different terminologies associated with it. He drew their attention to jobs lost, gained due to automation, change in labor supply from 2016-30.T his workshop was very beneficial and informative for the 30 students who actively participated with several exercises to work on and learn during the 2 days session.
Prof.Narendra –Dean Placement thanked the speaker for sharing his experiences and knowledge with the students. Prof.Jayadeva Prasad-HOD, Department of MBA presented a memento as a token of gratitude and appreciation.

The workshop focused on a session on Idea Generation conducted by Mr. Vaibhav Thacker. During this session the focus was on generating new ideas through brainstorming. Another guest speaker, Mr. Avinash emphasized on the opportunity scanning and analysing them under different circumstances. Students were categorised into 10 groups and they were asked to select a product/service each and develop a new innovative product/service with unique features along with itsfeasibility study.
In the post-lunch session, students presented their innovative products/services and the panel discussed the feasibility of the ideas developed by the teams.
Mr. Donson D’souza, explained in detail the various funding opportunities available for new start- us and how one can approach venture capitalists or angel investors.
Subsequently, Mr. Mayur Shetty discussed in detail the importance of building an effective team for the smooth functioning of a start-up. The team should consist of people from various key areas such as finance, marketing and technical areas.
The workshop was concluded by collecting students’ feedback about the programme. Prof. Jayadeva Prasad thanked the resource persons for their presence and gave away the mementoes as a token of appreciation from the Department of MBA, MITE.
Department of MBA at MITE strives to inspire undergraduate students to achieve excellence in the field of management and culture. INSPIRE, an annual inter-collegiate program, is a fest open for undergraduate students of all disciplines from in and around coastal Karnataka to showcase their talent and to compete in various management and cultural events. The fest includes cash prizes in all the categories as well as championship trophies.
MAPS Mangalore wins INSPIRE 2018
INSPIRE 2018 was conducted by the Department of Business Administration on February 24th, 2018. More than 200 students from various colleges across the neighbouring districts participated in the different management and cultural events. Winning students were awarded attractive cash prizes and trophies.
Dr. John Clarence Miranda, Principal, Pompei College, Aikala graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and inaugurated INSPIRE 2018. Prof. Jayadeva Prasad, HOD, Dept. of MBA, welcomed the gathering and Dr. C. R. Rajashekhar, Vice Principal, MITE, delivered the presidential remarks.
Various management and cultural events such as Money Matters, Man Power, Hard Sell, Start-up Street, Brain Teaser, Mixed Bag, Indian Solo Singing, Western Solo Singing, Mime Show and Variety Competition were held throughout the day.
Dr. Ummappa Poojary P, Associate Professor, Dept. of Commerce, Sri Gokarnanatheshwara College, Mangalore was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. Mr. Rajesh Chawta, Chairman, MITE, presided over the function. Dr Rajashekhar, Vice-Principal and Prof. Jayadeva Prasad, HOD, Dept. of MBA, MITE were also present.
MAPS College, Mangalore won the overall championship and SMS College, Brahmavar were the Runners-up. Apart from these, SDM College, Mangalore, NSAMFGC, Nitte and Dhavala College, Moodbidri won several prizes in various events.
With the aim of supplementing syllabus learning with some practical experience, a domain training program was conducted in the field of Banking for the benefit of MBA students of MITE. It was a two-day intensive training programme conducted on April 20th and 21st, 2018 by resource persons Mr. Arun and Mr. Vighnesh from Dlite, Bengaluru.
The domain training comprised of various activities and some of the important topics discussed, apart from academics, were taught using practical use cases and activities. A few important topics that were touched upon are the fields open to MBA graduates, the expectationsof the industries, how to develop a use case, prospective analysis, career in investment management, core banking and banking structure. The inputs that were imparted tend to be more relevant once the career journey starts. This training went in a good flow and was an interactive and informative session.
This kind of all-round training gives students inputs as to what is expected from them by corporates right from day one and enhances their knowledge by solving practical use cases.
The annual leadership summit was organised by the Department of Management Studies, MITE, on 07th October, 2017. The objective of this programme is to stimulate the young students to blossom in to responsible leaders. Programme helps the students of MBA to understand the domestic and global business perspectives. Dr. N K Thingalaya, Former Chairman and Managing Director, Syndicate Bank inaugurated the summit. Mr. P raveen Kamath , GM and Global Head- Human Resources, Wipro Limited spoke about the Importance of Technology for the managers. The other prominent leaders who presented the talk were Mr. Guru Prasad Kamath - VP, Manipal Digital Systems and Mr. Nishanth MS - VP (Training & Agency development) , Bharti AXA Life Insurance.
Department of MBA from Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering (MITE) organised a one-day national conclave on “Human Capital management – Emerging perspectives” on 19.11.2016 in its campus in Moodabidri. The conclave was attended by eminent speakers from the industry and delegates from several colleges.
Conclave was inaugurated by the key note speaker Mr Shantaram Hegdekatte, Director, Takshila and US schools, Educomp India and the valedictory address was given by Prof Achal Raghavan, adjunct faculty at IIM Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Udaipur and Shillong.
The first panel discussion on the topic “Leveraging technology in human capital management”was moderated by Prof. Murthy R K, CEO and co-founder of Asva running club and partner at Mindfield resources and was attended by Mr Sridhar murthy, HR manager at EVRY India, Mrs Veena Shetty, HR manager , Desicrew solutions and Ms Sandeepa Samuel, Head of HR, Applift.
The second panel discussion on the topic “Cultural issues in a globalised environment” was moderated by Prof Balasubramaniam, former CEO of Tata International and was attended by Ms SonaliRamaiah, HR lead, Cisco, Mr Noel fernandes, HR manager, ITC ltd and Ms RamyaVenkatachalam, HR manager SAPA BS pvt ltd.
The principal Prof. G.L Eswara Prasad welcomed the gathering and the chairman Mr. Rajesh Chowta delivered presidential address.
Keeping in line with its mission of providing excellent post graduate management education and exposing its students to the best professionals from the industry, MITE organised its 1st Leadership Summit in the campus on Saturday, August 20, 2016. The chief guest for the event was Mr. Karthik Sathuragiri, Director of Emerging Customer and Inside Sales, Asia Pacific and Japan at Akamai Technologies. Mr. Karthik spoke about the strategies for volatile global economy. Second speaker for the event was Mr. Lawrence Pinto from Evry India, he spoke about the role of a manager in a company. Mr. Srini Bhopal, Founder and COO of Sherpify spoke about the role of talents in the success of as company. Last speaker of the event was Mr. Siddarth S N, Head - Business HR at SPAR, he spoke about the HR functions of retail industry.

With close to a decade of business industry experience across leading companies of varied sectors, SrikantaLahari is an M.Com, LLB, MBA, B.Sc and has completed Financial Data Analytics from IIM K. She has domain expertise in Finance, Business Process Analysis and Training & Development and has over a decade of teaching experience. She teaches Managerial Economics, Financial Accounting & Management and Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. SrilankaLahari has also presented papers in International Journal pertaining to Women Entrepreneurs.
With the intension of enhancing the knowledge of personal investment, MBA department of MITE has organised a workshop on Capital Market Awareness. MITE faculty and MBA students took part in this workshop. Mr. Pratik Shetty welcomed the guest speaker and audience for the program.
Ms. LahariSagi started the discussion with the concept of investments, earnings and expenditure. Difference between savings and investments were discussed in detail. The growth of Sensex , the compounding impact of equity investments, inflation beating capacity of equity and the increasing consumer demand of the country were discussed in support of equity investment. She discussed about the user-friendly portal of BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange). The responsibility of an investor to do the due diligence of any investment product and the support of BSE in this regard was also the part of discussion.
