focused session at the 2019 CEM retreat.

Invest Early and Partners shared their process of embedding CEM into their program. They described the professional development and resources they provide to teams so they can engage all children in learning.

In their presentation and in their shared resource folder below, you will find visuals provided to teams, example agendas for coaching & data meetings, and ideas for creating inclusive environments for all children to learn and grow.

During August Professional Development, teaching teams have time to get the required engagement practices ready for their classrooms. Many of the resources they need are provided. They also have dedicated teaming and coaching time to embed goals, work on new engagement strategies and review data to make decisions throughout the year.

Food for Thought ~

As you review Invest Early & partners information, you might consider:

What does your program do to start the year off thinking about CEM?
Are any of the engagement practices expectations in your program? How are staff supported in meeting those expectations?
When can teaching teams discuss engagement practices? Review data? Create plans to support individual children?
Who do you need to collaborate with to make any changes to your professional development plan for next year?

Embedding Related services

Invest Early/Head Start/IASC staff worked collaboratively with their related service providers to create a "sit to stand" sequence to create many opportunities to practice this skill correctly!

How do you partner with related service providers?

equal isn't always fair

Invest Early/Head Start/IASC staff use this visual to help children understand why some of their peers need different things. We hear this often "If we let one have (XXX), then all of the children will want it." This visual helps children understand why their peer may need an individual copy of the book and they don't.
