Middle School Courses

As it is our mission in Mecklenburg County Public Schools to prepare students for college and careers after their K-12 experience, the middle school model must provide opportunities for students to explore different career opportunities. This exploration will give students much-needed exposure to different career pathways. Through our elective course offerings, students are given the opportunity to explore a variety of career fields. The goal is that by the time students reach 8th grade, they will have enough exposure to make more informed decisions about what pathway they would like to take when they reach high school.

In keeping with this philosophy, students will be required to take elective classes in each of the domains mentioned below. Any additional electives may be selected by the students to take a deeper dive into concepts in which they are most interested.

Any elective course marked with an ** is an 18-week (semester) course. Any course marked with a ^yr is a yearlong course. All other courses are 9-week courses.
