Academic and Career Plans prepare students for life after high school. The development of an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) Portfolio begins in the elementary grades and is reviewed each year until the student graduates high school. The ACP is a personal learning plan and course of study that aligns with the student’s academic and career goals. Students explore college and career options by discovering their personal strengths and interests, create goals to help them achieve success, plan for courses that meet high school graduation requirements and prepare for life after high school.

The student, student’s parent or guardian, and school official(s) will create a plan agreed upon and signed by all parties to ensure that everyone is focused on working toward the same goals and analyze and adjust the Plan in response to new information to meet the needs of the student. The Plan shall include, but is not limited to, the student’s program of study for high school graduation and a postsecondary career pathway based on the student’s academic and career interests. The Plan shall be included in the student’s record and shall be reviewed and updated, if necessary, before the student enters the 9th and 11th grades.

Students who transfer from a home school, private school or an out of state public school into the eighth grade shall have a plan developed as soon as possible following enrollment.

This plan is created and stored electronically in Major Clarity. Students log on using their MCPS Google email address.

Mecklenburg County Public Schools provide a 21st Century Learning Environment which fosters career literacy, academic enhancement, social-emotional growth and community engagement that prepares students who contribute to the global society.

Our Academic and Career Pathways display our instruction from kindergarten through graduation. Whether providing early exposure to careers in elementary school, hands-on experiences in middle school, or learning essential and certificated skills in high school, all is organized according to our Career Academies. Career Centers are organized as small learning communities, combine academic and technical curriculum around a career theme, and establish partnerships with local employers to provide work-based learning opportunities. Their purpose is to keep students engaged in school and prepare them for a successful transition to postsecondary education and employment.
