2 left: Special Ed and Professional Expectations!!
Checklists are a tool we use to manage and record the completion of competencies. Students and advisors use checklists to gauge progress and set goals. The checklists serve as a sort of scavenger hunt for learning. Students have much flexibility in the timing and methods of meeting their checklist goals, but ultimately must complete the entire checklist to earn an MC2 diploma.
Checklists are used as out transcripts as well. Colleges accept checklists as our official records, even though they do not have any grades recorded. Checklists represent our commitment to being grade-free. Ultimately, student progress on checklist items is either "Met" or "Not Yet." There is no failure, merely a first attempt in learning.
Students are always assigned to two checklists at a time: a phase checklist and their Essential Knowledge checklist. A student who is in Phase Two will be looking
Phase Checklists
Tackled sequentially (first Phase One, then Phase Two, etc)
Tackled one phase at a time
Take varying lengths of time to complete
Builds developmentally (research projects, habits, post secondary exploration)
Includes routines and structure-based checklist items (EODs, internships, treks, etc)
Includes some essential knowledge-type competencies that are repetitive (ELA, Wellness)
EK (Essential Knowledge) Checklist
Can be done via any learning opportunity type
Completed in any order
Completed while in any phase
Spans time and space
EK portfolios aren’t done until competencies on lists are completed
Subjects do not necessarily need to be completed all at once.
i.e. Students can some Geometry competencies without addressing the entire Geometry portfolio.
