Applying to a Mazamas Activity
You may be on the path to becoming a BCEP graduate, but this is just the beginning of your journey! There are many ways to get involved to stay a part of the Mazamas community after graduation.
There are many activities that are offered year round through different programs. Most of our climbs take place between April - Nov. More information here. Some are multi-day climbs, while others may be an alpine start from the trailhead. Check often the page often as climbs can become available a few days beforehand, depending upon the weather.
Pacing range:
Pacing can vary from leader to leader, but it can also depend on the elevation gained, distance, and equipment. When applying take these considerations into account. Other things that can influence speed depend on weather windows, or other factors that play into pacing.
Pace I: "Wildflower pace", Slower pace, Frequent breaks, etc
Pace II: Steady moderate pace, options for many layer rest, sight seeing, bio breaks, etc
Pace III: Steady moderate to quick pace depending on terrain, few layer and bio breaks,
Pace IV: Steady quick pace, movement for maximum efficiency, minimal rest stops
A Climb
B Climb
Examples are: Mt St Helens, Worm Flows route; Mt Hood, Old Chute; Mt Baker, Easton route; Broken Top; Middle Sister; Mt Thielsen, West Ridge.
C Climb
D/E Climb
Examples are: Mt Stuart, West Ridge; Mt Shuksan, North Face.
Mazamas Programs and Activities
This hiking program is a great way to spend all year outdoors. Explore more trails in the PNW with Mazamas.
Explore local aquatic in the Pacific Northwest canyons. Prerequisites: belaying, rappelling, rope management, swimming, and anchor building.
Mazamas offers many first aid trainings throughout the year such as; Wilderness First Aid, Mountaineering First Aid, Hike Leader First Aid
Activities for those in their 20s and 30s and anyone young at heart. Activities year round.
Training to become proficient at leading traditional climbs on vertical rock from single-pitch cragging to multi-pitch and alpine rock routes.
Continuing climbing education to prepare for more advanced climbs on rock and snow and develop self-sufficiency in the mountains.
This 8 week ski touring program prepares advanced skiers with the skills, attitude, and awareness to tour non-technical intermediate level backcountry ski climbs in PNW.
Travel adventures that last 5+ days that may include hikes, walking tours, kayaking, climbs, etc. Climb in Alaska in August 2022!
