BCEP Graduation Requirements
REQUIREMENTS FOR EARNING A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Attend all team breakout sessions
Attend weekly team breakout sessions. These sessions are an opportunity to discuss learning materials and build fundamental skills.
Breakout sessions vary by leader and can be in-person or video conference.
Educational Materials
Each week you will need to review the learning modules this site. Each learning module is meant to facilitate your knowledge and is up to you to complete.
Technical Rock Sessions
Participate in two indoor rock climbing technical sessions at the MMC and one outdoor rock climbing field session at Horsethief Butte, [or other locations determined by climb leaders].
Most teams will camp together during their outdoor rock weekends but this is not required for graduation.
Snow Field Session
Participate in a one-day snow climbing field session at Mt. Hood.
Staying overnight in lodge is not required, participating in the daytime activities is required for graduation.
Team Hikes
All students are required to complete a minimum of three team hikes. It is recommended to attend as many hikes as possible to build conditioning for post BCEP Mazama climbs.
Pass Final Assessments
Students must pass two assessments to graduate:
an online knowledge comprehension test with a minimum 40/50 questions answered correctly
a practical skills assessment at the MMC, which includes top rope belaying, rappelling, glacier travel, and knots.
The online test will be sent to you in an email. Your climb leader will have dates at the end of your course set aside for your online and practical test dates.
If you have any concerns or need accommodations email bcep@mazamas.org for assistance.
