This college-level course is an alternative to 11th Grade US history allowing students to study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the United States from c. 1491 to the present analyzing texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and writing essays expressing historical arguments. The course focuses on these historical periods:
1491-1607 | Pre- Colombian America and Early European Conquest
1607-1754 | Colonial Era and Culture
1754-1800 | Colonial Wars, American Revolution, and the Early Republic
1800-1848 | Growth of the Nation and Territorial Conquest
1844-1877 | War with Mexico, Sectional Tensions, Civil War, and Reconstruction
Unit 6: 1865-1898 | Urbanization and the Gilded Age
1890-1945 | Progressive Movement, American Imperialism, and the World Wars
1945-1980 | Cold War and Civil Strife
1980-Present | Conservative Resurgence, end of the Cold War, the War of Terror, and Modern-Day
The course will also prepare students to pass the Advanced Placement exam which can reward college credit along with the Florida end of course assessment of United States History.
