Culture Team:
“If you're going to get better, it's going to require the suppression of ego and comfort.” ---Brian Kight (^^^click to watch the video)
We often fall into the trap of being a victim of our own success. Our ego convinces us that where we are and what we have are good enough, and gets in the way of becoming even better. This week, the culture team challenges you to find one place in your life where your ego is actively working against you, and to begin to find ways to lose your ego and do the work necessary to become the best version of you.
As a reminder, the next R-Factor Connect Session will be on March 18.
Inclusive Excellence Team: The article Colorblindess: the New Racism? from Teaching Tolerance challenges the (often well-intentioned) platitude "I don't see color." It shows us that "The core of 'I don't see color,' is 'I don't see my own color...'" and it helps guide us into a more aware and informed space.
Personalized Learning Team:
Through personalizing learning, students grow a deeper understanding of content and themselves. Shawna Parkinson shares this memory and self reflection organizer to help us in our PL journey.
As students grow and develop, they are also building skills related to regulation and social skills. Managing themselves and their emotions is a critical component of development. At times, barriers in appropriate execution of these skills may present themselves through bullying within peer relationships. Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center provides a wealth of resources and activities you can use with students and within your classroom. Check them out here to see how you can incorporate this skill-building opportunity in your space!
March 11 UC Blue Ash Visit:
Representatives from UC Blue Ash will be in the Harvard room at 12:00 pm during Connect Time for applicants to schedule placement tests, change your application status, and ask questions about scheduling classes and financial aid. If you are interested in meeting with UC Blue Ash please register in Flexisched or see your school counselor.
March 12 College 101 Panel:
Mason High School Counselors invite you to join us at 7:00 pm in the HS Auditorium to hear admission representatives from several prominent universities discuss the latest trends in college admissions - including public, private, and out-of-state schools.
