Culture Team:
"Let's face it. In today's world, the external environment is not going to provide consistent positive energy. That's only going to come from within us." -- Tim Kight (<--- Click to watch the video.)
As we make our way through these last two weeks, make a decision to be the positive energy for your family, students and colleagues. Choose to make your 20 square feet a source of motivation for everyone around you.
And a reminder: The next Connect Time dedicated to student R-Factor training is January 22.
Inclusive Excellence Team: In the blog post Rethinking Holidays in Schools, Alex Shevrin Venet provides questions for reflection that is worth checking out. Questions such as, " How do we balance honoring and celebrating students/families/teachers and their cultural and religious values with a commitment to inclusion for all and not preferencing one culture over another?" allow us to step back and think about the big picture.
Personalized Learning Team:
Teachers often ask us how we can ensure students are accessing quality content. They want to turn some of the research process over to students, but are afraid they may not find the best materials.
Check out Jennifer Gonzalez's Cult of Pedagogy Podcast about Content Curation. Content Curation engages higher order thinking, puts students in the driver's seat for research, and helps them filter out unhelpful sources.
By working with students day in and day out, you gain a valuable perspective on how they are doing physically, emotionally, and mentally. Though we have many different resources for guidance and assistance within our school building, it’s important to build relationships and engage in dialogue with caregivers as well. At times, facilitating caregiver conversations can be challenging or uncomfortable. Check out strategies for working holistically with your student’s family.

SAVE THE DATE: College Credit Plus Informational Meeting
January 16
6:30-8:30 PM
Mason HS Auditorium
If students are considering taking College Credit Plus (CCP) classes for ANY part of the 2020-2021 school year (including summer courses), it is strongly recommended that they attend this meeting with their parents to become familiar with the process. CCP representatives from the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, Sinclair Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will be on hand to answer questions regarding their specific programs and application process. Attendance at this meeting is STEP 1 of the CCP process.
Ohio’s College Credit Plus program can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. CCP is open to students in grades 7-12 who meet the academic requirements published by the Ohio Department of Education and the specific colleges and universities involved in the program.
An intent to participate form will be posted on the MHS school counseling web page by February 3, 2020, and will close April 1, 2020, which is the deadline to notify the school district of intent to participate during the next school year.
