Need to Know (Sunday, August 18th)
- District invite for Opening Day on Monday, August 19th -
- We will have a brief staff meeting in the Auditorium on Monday, August 19th after our "Team of 8" meetings
- StuGo will provide lunch for the staff at Noon in the Small Commons on Monday, August 19th.

- I recently met with Teacher Leaders to discuss plan for the morning teacher Collaboration Meetings we will have during the week. I shared with them many tools that I use during meetings that assist in defining problems and finding solutions for problems. You may follow this link to see the agenda for the workshop discussions.
- We will have a "clap in" on Tuesday August 20th to welcome the students back in the building. If available please go to one of the following entrances : front entrance, music entrance, small commons or natatorium entrance by 7:15 am, as the doors open at 7:20 am.
- Student Activities Update
- On August 22nd, we will have our annual MHS Open House. There will be free babysitting provided by STUGO. Chloe's Eatery food truck will be on campus so people can grab a bite to eat if they choose.
- Mark your calendars! Parent Conferences this year will be on Thursday, October 10th from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Thursday, March 12th from 4:00 PM - 7:30 PM.
- We always welcome our staff back to the high school every year with a Staff Summer Slide Show. It is one of the most popular parts of our return as we get a glimpse into all of the amazing fun and relaxation our Comet family had over the summer months. We invite you to jump in and take a look if you don't get to see the entire show during the opening staff meeting.
- Please share with us your feedback for our weekly edition of "In The Know." We want to make sure the information is benefiting our staff and we include all of the necessary information you need to have a successful year.

School Safety Team:
- Please welcome Officer Herlinger back to MHS as he is part of the school safety team this school year. Many of you know Officer Herlinger as he is a parent of students in the building as well as former SRO for MHS.
- Officer Dyer will also be back in the building, starting her 9th year in the High School.
- Officer Dyer will also have a new 4 pawed partner this year! They have been hard at work this summer with training and getting to know the building. ORION is trained in narcotic detection, tracking, and article searches.
Safety Information to start of the School year:
- The building will open for students daily at 7:20 am.
- The Front door, natatorium, Music entry and Small Commons will be open at this time. We will have staff at all of these locations and the School Safety Team (Officer Dyer and Officer Herlinger) will be in close proximity.
- Please do not allow students to enter before this time period or at any other location. It is our responsibility to help protect a safe environment.
Fire Drill August 26th around 8:40 am.
During all fire drills this school year, please practice the 4 L's.
- Teacher/Staff member first person out the door
- Look up, down, left, right to ensure it is safe to evacuate
- If Safe, send students then shut classroom door.

Culture Team: We are excited to continue and deepen our work in building a positive, inclusive, and engaging school culture! Please take some time to check out the district Culture Guide as a refresher of our "why" and our goals. "Own the moment!"
Inclusive Excellence Team: (also known as MHS Equity Team) The team welcomes two new members: Mike Planicka and Thurman Allen. This year we will continue our focus towards "Celebrating Acceptance" of our entire community with our popular Newsletter as well as continued training in topics related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for our Big Rock District work. Thanks to all of our team members that give their time, brains and courage to do this work!
Personalized Learning Team: The Personalized Learning Team and the Teacher Leaders participated in workshops this summer led by Ms. Bumiller, Ms. Hufnagel, and our LED's Mr. Roberts and Mr. Muhlberg. We are excited about the learning process that will take place for all of our staff as we continue our journey towards student-driven learning. The PL Team Guide explains in more detail everyone's roles in the district on our personalized learning teams.
