Below is the feedback/Responses from:
ALICE review (Student Table-Top)
Students had concerns about safety in the large commons with the balcony.- I agree- we now have paraprofessionals at the balcony in the morning and supervise balcony during lunch. This area will always be an area of concern-must use proactive measures such as Tipline or “See Something, Say Something.”
Is there any further training available on this? It was very informative and well done with the time allowed- Yes, we will continue to look for more ways for Building Safety training and review. We will share more information for the scheduled March A.L.I.C.E review.
Tourniquet training Feedback:
Please let us know when we will have them available throughout the school- we are in the process of ordering the tourniquets. I will let everyone know when they are here and location.
I appreciated the hands on opportunity to practice
-If you were not able to make the Tourniquet training, please see one of the nurses in the Nurse Station to complete training.
Culture Team:
“Discipline is the life-long process of you getting better at your life.” ---Tim Kight (^^^ Click to watch the video.)
As the new year begins, we encourage you to make a commitment to improving the culture everywhere you go - in your classroom, in the hallways, in your home, and elsewhere - by committing to improve yourself through self-discipline.
As a reminder: The next Connect Time dedicated to student R-Factor training is January 22.

Aaron and Joe hope you had a really restful two weeks. We also took the two weeks off to rest and reset for the new semester. During our time off, our friend Allison Zmuda published some lighter articles that you may find interesting.
Will Richardson Makes the Case for Connecting School to Real Life - Will Richardson has been putting out big ideas for a number of years. This article links to one of his TED Talks that talks about having students creating real work with real value in the outside world.
Time of Day Matters (A LOT) to Mood and Performance - This one looks at how students' performance can really change over the time of day. I, for one, totally get this. I'm a morning person and perform much better in the early bells compared to the late bells. Others are the opposite!
How Amazing Would Pop-Up Courses Be During the Year? - This is an interesting thought based on the pop-up shops that one sees during different parts of the year.
The Learning Experience Team welcomes you back and hopes you have an amazing 2nd semester! Stay tuned for some professional learning opportunities in the coming weeks.
Helping students work through interpersonal conflict and perspective taking is an amazing way educators can build student’s social-emotional skills. Check out how to create a safe and inviting space for each student’s voice to be heard and for groups to collaboratively solve problems within the classroom here.
If your college REQUIRES a midterm transcript and report, it will be available to send after Wednesday, January 15, 2020. We will have mid-year transcript request forms (half green sheets) available on January 15 in the Counseling Office. SAVE THE DATE: College Credit Plus Informational Meeting
January 16
6:30-8:30 PM
Mason HS Auditorium
If students are considering taking College Credit Plus (CCP) classes for ANY part of the 2020-2021 school year (including summer courses), it is strongly recommended that they attend this meeting with their parents to become familiar with the process. CCP representatives from the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, Sinclair Community College and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College will be on hand to answer questions regarding their specific programs and application process. Attendance at this meeting is STEP 1 of the CCP process.
Ohio’s College Credit Plus program can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. CCP is open to students in grades 7-12 who meet the academic requirements published by the Ohio Department of Education and the specific colleges and universities involved in the program.
An intent to participate form will be posted on the MHS school counseling web page by February 3, 2020, and will close April 1, 2020, which is the deadline to notify the school district of intent to participate during the next school year.
