Through learning languages, students develop an intercultural capability and an understanding of the role of language and culture in communication, and become more accepting of diversity and difference. They develop understanding of global citizenship, and reflect on their own heritage, values, culture and identity.

This course caters for students of all abilities. Knowledge, skills and attitudes developed by these students will have relevance to possible career paths especially in the business world and money market as well as general life experiences.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN

  • Sports

  • Daily routine

  • School life

  • Transport and directions

  • Holidays

  • Making arrangements


HOW WILL YOU LEARN

This course provides students with the opportunity to gain effective skills in communicating in the Korean language, to explore the relationship between Korean and English, and to develop an understanding of the cultures associated with the Korean language.

Activities in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary are included in units of work designed to enhance insights for students into aspects of Korean life as well as the language. Online resources, including YouTube, films and songs, are used to supplement the basic course material. An online ‘Google Classroom’ is also set up to assist and motivate students in their learning.


HOW WILL YOU BE ASSESSED

Students will be assessed in tests, assignments and classroom activities that develop students’ Listening and Responding, Reading and Responding, Speaking and Writing skills. Cultural Understandings, Systems of the Korean Language and Language Learning Strategies will be embedded in the course and assessments. Students will also do cultural projects.
