This course provides students with the opportunity to gain effective skills in communicating in the Japanese language, to explore the relationship between Japanese and English, and to develop an understanding of the cultures associated with the Japanese language.
Activities in reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar and vocabulary are included in units of work designed to enhance insights for students into aspects of Japanese life as well as the language. Online resources, including YouTube, films and songs, are used to supplement the basic course material. An online ‘Google Classroom’ is also set up to assist and motivate students in their learning.

Students will be assessed in tests, assignments and classroom activities that develop students’ Listening and Responding, Reading and Responding, Speaking and Writing skills. Cultural Understandings, Systems of the Japanese Language and Language Learning Strategies will be embedded in the course and assessments. Students will also do cultural projects.
