5Chestnut  Learning Update

Central idea: People with different beliefs may struggle for rights and freedoms.

To build on our learning about human rights, the children have been thinking about Britain and the systems, rights and laws that we have in place.  They have used their skills as inquirers to find out about the role in which Britain has had in spreading Christian values around the world, and with their new knowledge of how Parliament works, they have also thought about how significant events in history have helped shape the country that we have today.

In maths, we have been learning how to round up to 1,000,000.  The children have been using their knowledge of place value to think about the position of a digit within a number, and how we can use this to round.  We have also been thinking about powers of ten and the relationship between numbers when they get ten times bigger, eg, 10,000 is ten times the size of 1000, as well as the inverse facts.
