3/4Elm   Learning Update

Central idea: Balance in our lives can promote health, well-being and contentment.

This week the class have been preparing for their first piece of extended writing - a non-chronological report about healthy living. In preparation for this, discussions have centred around balanced diets, the different food groups and their roles in our health and development, as well as medicines and doctors when we feel unwell and the importance of exercise and sleep. In addition, we have begun our history project, examining the history of food from Stone Age times through to the present day, starting with the ancient humans being hunter-gatherers and having nomadic lifestyles. Food has also been a topic studied in science, learning about food chains and terms such as carnivore, herbivore, producer and consumer.

The class has also continued reading Journey to the River Sea - an adventure story set in the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. Ask your child about Mr Carter's 'dismal' hobby!

A reminder that PE lessons are on Tuesdays and Fridays - please ensure your child has an appropriate PE kit in school. As the weather is also quite mixed presently, please ensure your child has a coat and a jumper or cardigan.
