6MonkeyPuzzle Learning Update

Central idea: Architecture as a form of expression reflects culture and history.

Learning Update

We began the week by reflecting on last term's inquiry, before beginning our central idea for this term. Our first line of inquiry, an inquiry into the core principles of architecture, brought great class discussion around how we see architecture all around us, exploring our local architecture too. After our initial research, we have planned, written and edited double page spreads which demonstrate our findings about the core principles of architecture and their importance.

We are already hooked on our reading book, Wonderscape, which follows the mysterious journey of three characters who appear to have been transported to another world. We have so many burning questions as to how they will find a way out!

In maths, we have begun looking at fractions; learning how to simplify to find equivalence, using our knowledge of highest common factors. We have practised converting between mixed numbers and improper fractions and used our knowledge of common multiples to compare and order fractions using both written and pictorial methods.

In science, we started learning about light and how it travels. We made our own periscopes, ensuring that the angles of both mirrors were at 45 degrees to allow the light to reflect, allowing us to see around obstacles!

During our week of remembrance, we created beautiful poppies inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe, drawing enlarged poppies to express the beauty of the flower up close. We used chalk to blend the tones, building shades of red, purple, yellow, orange and pink to create depth. We hope that you enjoy these as much as we did on the Poppy Walk. On Thursday, we walked to Marden Church for our remembrance service where we reflected on the lives lost and those who fought.
