2Sequoia Learning Update

Central idea: Artforms can be used to express ideas and feelings.

Before we embark on our new central idea for this term, we have taken the time to reflect on remembrance this week. Using the theme of 'How we express ourselves' we have explored the story of Ben and Ray in the beautiful book 'Where the Poppies Now Grow'. Two young boys, who once played as children, find themselves at war as soldiers. We have been using adjectives in order to create expanded noun phrases to write descriptive sentences which describe the poppy fields, trenches and the memories associated with them. We have created mixed media compositions of the fields where the poppies now grow, as well as working with tissue paper and craft wire to make a 'real' poppy. We hope you enjoy looking at our fantastic learning during the remembrance walk.

Our maths learning has really challenged our knowledge of number bonds to ten and place value in order to add and subtract across a ten. Children have used number lines to support accurate counting as well as manipulating dienes blocks in order to show an exchange.
