2Maple Learning Update

Central idea: Artforms can be used to express ideas and feelings.

Before we embark on our new central idea for this term, we are using the theme of 'How we express ourselves' to help us explore the experiences of two young soldiers, Ben and Ray, who reflect on the poppy fields where they once played together as boys. We have been using adjectives in order to create expanded noun phrases to write descriptive sentences which describe the poppy fields, trenches and the memories associated with them. We have immersed ourselves in remembrance this week by creating mixed media compositions of the fields where the poppies now grow, as well as working with tissue paper and craft wire to make a 'real' poppy.

Our maths learning has really challenged our knowledge of number bonds to ten and place value in order to add and subtract across a ten. Children have used number lines to support accurate counting as well as manipulating dienes blocks in order to show an exchange.
