Additional Conduct Explanations
ANONYMITY
When requested by any staff member, students must stop and correctly identify themselves
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
Substitute teachers play a vital role in maintaining continuity of instruction on days when the teacher is absent.
Students will be expected to behave as they would on any other day in the classroom.
If students choose to misbehave specifically because there is a substitute teacher, there will be consequences with the classroom teacher and most likely with administration.
All students know the correct way to behave and will be expected to do so
HALLWAYS
Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate behavior in the hallways:
by walking (not running)
keeping to the right
being reasonably quiet so as not to interrupt the classes in session
by keeping hands and feet to themselves
avoiding horseplay and other inappropriate behavior
Students are not permitted in the halls during class periods unless accompanied by a teacher or have an authorized pass by a staff member.
Students should use the appropriate hallways and stairwells as directed by staff.
GANG and GANG RELATED ACTIVITY
Gang symbols and other gang-related activity or behavior are not allowed at Prairie River Middle School.
This section includes all acts which Wisconsin statutes (laws) define as crimes.
Medallions, chains, other jewelry, or tattoos which identify gang membership or gang affiliation or which have come to represent a gang shall not be worn or displayed in school or at school events.
Gang clothing is not always restricted to an item of clothing but may include the way in which a particular item of clothing is worn.
Gang insignia shall not be worn, possessed, used, distributed, displayed, carried, or sold by any students on school grounds or at school-related activities.
THEFT/VANDALISM
No student may steal, deface, damage or destroy another person's property or public property. This includes all acts which Wisconsin statutes (laws) define as crimes.
Each student should realize that vandalism to District property is costly to repair and is directly related to increased school taxes.
Attempts should be made to teach students respect for property which can be done in connection with the care of textbooks and the use of District materials and equipment.
In accordance with law, students who cause damage to District property shall be subject to disciplinary measures including suspension and expulsion.
Also their parents shall be financially liable for such damage to the extent of the law except that students over eighteen (18) years of age or older shall be liable for damage they cause.
The Board authorizes the imposition of fines for the loss, damage, or destruction of District owned, borrowed or leased equipment, school records, apparatus, musical instruments, library materials, textbooks, and for damage to District buildings.
The District Administrator may report to the appropriate authorities any student whose damage of District property has been serious or chronic in nature.
GAMBLING
Students are not permitted to gamble in school or at any sponsored/supervised activity.
Activities such as trading cards and collector items fall under this category.
The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items in this nature.
PUBLIC DISPLAYS OF AFFECTION
Students will refrain from any public display of affection while at school or at school sponsored events.
Students engaging in sexually intimate behavior during school hours or at school sponsored events will be subject to discipline which may include suspension from school or expulsion.
In addition, some behaviors of this nature may violate state laws and school personnel are required to report these instances to local authorities
NUISANCE ITEMS AND PYROTECHNIC DEVICES
Laser pens, laser lights, noise-making devices, or other "gadgets" are not allowed.
These items will be confiscated and returned after school either to the student or to a parent (depending on how often it has occurred).
Students may not possess or use any pyrotechnic devices or facsimiles (firecrackers, sparklers, smoke bombs, matches, cigarette lighters, etc.) or ignite a fire within a school building or on school property.
Exceptions may be made by the school administration for approved school activities.
