SPECIAL EVENTS
SPECIAL EVENTS
School-sponsored after school special events, such as dances, and open gym, are activities held periodically throughout the school year as a positive social (and learning) activity for middle school students. It is a privilege for middle school students to attend PRMS-sponsored events. If students fail to comply with the rules of the event or fail to comply with the directives of supervisors or chaperones at an event, they may lose their privilege of attending future events.
PRMS-sponsored events are "closed" activities, meaning students enrolled outside of the Merrill Area Public School district are excluded from attending. Students enrolled at St. Francis Catholic, St. John Lutheran, and Trinity Lutheran schools in the MAPS district are permitted to attend PRMS dances upon approval from PRMS administration.
When entering the school-sponsored event, students must be checked off from an attendance list.
All school rules as stated in this school planner also apply to all special events.
Students will adhere to the Student Dress Code guidelines during any after school event unless a special situation or event allows for a change. This will be clearly communicated to students prior to the event.
Students absent or suspended on the day of the event (in school and out-of-school) may not attend.
School dances begin at 3:45 p.m. and conclude at 5:30 p.m. Doors to an after school dance will lock at 4:00 p.m. and will not reopen until 5:30 pm. Students arriving or departing between these times must have their parents or guardians personally accompany them to Door #14 .
All coats, backpacks, hats, etc. will be left in student lockers during the dance. Students are allowed to retrieve items starting 15 minutes prior to the end of the dance.
SCHOOL DANCE
All school discipline rules will be in effect during dances. If a student is involved in a disciplinary action, the student will be told to leave the dance and money will not be refunded.
Students who leave a dance will not be allowed back into the building.
DRESS CODE FOR DANCES
The purpose of the dress code for dances is to promote an appropriate, safe and comfortable event for ALL.
PRMS students. Administration/staff will make a final determination if student attire is questionable.
Students will not be allowed at the dance if they do not conform to the dress code.
If students are unsure of their attire being compliant with the dress code, they should check with school administration well before the night of the dance.
*Administration reserves the right to deny any person(s) admittance to the dance.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES
Grade level and school-wide assemblies are held throughout the year.
Student expectations are to do the following:
Sit in an assigned area. The student's morning meeting or team teacher will tell the student where to go prior to the event.
Show respect during the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and when the MC asks for attention.
Show respect for all guests, performers, and fellow students.
Be attentive once the assembly program has begun. There will be no talking or moving around in or among the seats.
Refrain from whistling, cat calls, shouting out, etc. during the program.
Refrain from making trips out of the auditorium unless there is a true emergency.
Wait to be dismissed once the event has ended.
