Docetaxel injection is a medication used in the treatment of various types of cancers:
Breast Cancer: Docetaxel is often used as a part of chemotherapy regimens for the treatment of breast cancer, particularly when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic breast cancer).
Lung Cancer: Docetaxel is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer, both in advanced cases and in cases where surgery or radiation therapy is not possible.
Prostate Cancer: It is used in the treatment of advanced, hormone-refractory prostate cancer, where the cancer is no longer responding to hormone therapy.
Stomach Cancer: Docetaxel is used in combination with other chemotherapy drugs for the treatment of advanced stomach (gastric) cancer or gastroesophageal junction cancer.
Head and Neck Cancer: It can be used in the treatment of certain types of head and neck cancers, particularly when other treatments have not been effective.
Ovarian Cancer: Docetaxel may be used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer, typically after surgery and initial chemotherapy.
Bladder Cancer: It can be used in advanced bladder cancer cases, often as part ( combination chemotherapy regimens.
Mechanism of action of docetaxel against cancer cells. Docetaxel introduced to cancer cells increases the production of reactive oxygen species and also brings about phosphorylation of BCL-2 BAD protein. This results in microtubular distraction leading to cancer cell death.
