"Watch It Rise! Exploring How Plants Drink Water"
This week in in Year 3, we became young scientists and explored how plants drink water using a fun and colourful experiment with celery and purple food colouring. We placed celery stalks into cups of coloured water and closely observed them over the course of two and a half hours. We noticed the colour beginning to rise from the bottom of the stalks, showing us how water travels up through tiny tubes inside the plant—just like a straw! We're now leaving the celery over the long bank holiday weekend and can't wait to see what changes have happened by Tuesday. It’s been an exciting way to learn about how plants absorb water!

Young Musicians
This half term, Year 3 have been using music to explore our curriculum topic Challenging Stereotypes, linking it with the celebrations of Newham Heritage Month. We've been looking at how hip-hop can be a powerful way to share important messages, and the children have been busy brainstorming and writing their own lyrics that challenge stereotypes and celebrate individuality. With ideas flowing and themes taking shape, we’re now getting ready to compose a backing track and bring our songs to life through performance. We can’t wait to share the inspiring work of our talented young musicians!

Year 3 Artists: Challenging Stereotypes Through Creative Collage
This term in Year 3, our young artists have been diving into an exciting project linked to our curriculum topic, Challenging Stereotypes. Taking inspiration from the bold and thought-provoking work of the Singh Twins, the children have begun creating their own collages that explore themes of identity, diversity and inclusion.
Using a range of overlapping materials, they are carefully crafting artwork that sends a clear message: challenging stereotypes and confronting prejudice through the power of visual storytelling. The children have been experimenting with different textures and techniques, bringing their ideas to life in unique and meaningful ways.
Although the project is still in progress, the enthusiasm and creativity on display have been incredible. We can’t wait to see how their final pieces turn out—watch this space for the finished masterpieces!

Year 3 Explore Angles!
This week in Year 3, we’ve been learning all about angles, with a special focus on right angles. The children had fun using their own right angle testers to explore the classroom and playground. They searched high and low to find objects that had right angles in them, from books and doors to tables and whiteboards. It was exciting to discover just how many right angles are around us every day! We’re becoming expert angle spotters already!
