Year 2 Summer

This week year 2 took part in our annual sports day. They were all part of their team houses and battled it out across a number of events to earn points for their houses. The children didn't let the hot weather deter them from taking part and were fantastic on the day. Thank you to all the parents who came out to support their children.

This week year 2 had the opportunity to watch some Olympic hockey at the Olympic park. The children had a great time and really got into the spirits and cheered on England to a triumphant win. We then took a tour of the Olympic park as part of our learning to look at the human and physical features we can find. We explored different habitats as part of our science unit and compared different sculptures linking to our art learning. The children had a great day and took a lot away form it.

In computing this half term we are looking at coding. We are using the programme of purple mash to develop our coding skills. We are taking on the role of a programmer to create our own block code in order to program the software to follow the instruction. We are also developing our debugging skills by identifying and correcting errors in code. 

Today as a school we have been celebrating maths day. The theme of the day was maths rock stars. The children had great fun and the whole day was dedicated to maths themed activities, from maths investigations, times tables competitions, maths themed art and even a math scavenger hunt. The children had great fun and looked amazing.

This week we had the amazing opportunity to visit Horizon 22. A brilliant viewing space in the heart of central London that allows you to see London in its entirety. The children have been learning about London and was a great way to see their learning come to life and gain the experience of seeing the famous landmarks and monuments first-hand. 

This half term in computing we are looking at digital media and using software to create digital art based on famous styles. This week our focus was on the work of Piet Mondrian. We used a design software to try and reimagine his style of artwork.  

This week we continued our Maths learning around 3D shapes. We took our learning outside to find 3D shapes in real life objects. We scoured the playground looking for objects that had the properties of 3D shapes such as faces, vertices and faces. We worked in groups to see if we could find one of each type of 3D shape.

Welcome back, we hope you had a fun Easter break. The children have started this week in great spirits and have got stuck in with their learning. This week in Maths we have been looking at the topic of 3D shapes. The children have had fun exploring the different types of shapes and solving problems around them. We have be focussing on the properties of the shapes and how to identify them.
