This is the last week of Autumn 2 in Reception, we had such an exciting time. We walked to the Post Office and learnt how to buy a stamp and post a card. We wanted to interact with someone who helps us as this was part of this term's topic.
We also has Christmas dinner in school. We enjoyed eating the Gingerbread cookies. We were also able to perform The Nativity story. It was recorded so look out parents for the ping with the link for you to watch our performance.
In reception this week we went on our first trip to Stratford library. The children took part in storytelling activities and songs. We had great fun acting out hte characters and playing musical instruments.
In school we have been getting ready for Christmas with lots of christmas creative activites and lots of assembly rehearsal. The children have been dressing up in Santa hats and writing letters to Father Christmas.
We have had another busy weeek learning about the job of a reclycling collector and finding out what materials we can save and use again. We began our week by making our own monster bin to collect all the excess paper we use in the classroom.
We also had a visit from a train driver who talked to us about what it was like to drive a train and answered all of our interesting questions. We then went out into the garden and used our recycling materials to make our own train to go throught the tunnel. We also made boats and musical instruments.
We finished off the week by creating our own Christmas trees from cardboard boxes. We all worked together to decorate the boxes and will be adding our decorations next week.
We used our recycling theme to practice our CVC words.
In maths we have been learning different ways to form numbers 1- 5 by making patterns with square tiles.
This week we have been training to be fire fighters. First we had to make our fire helmets in order to keep our heads safe when entering a fire. Then we had to to pass our fitness test by completing the obstacle course in the garden. We all passed and were allowed to go and put out the fires that were reported to us.
Outside in the garden we made our own burning house using a range of collage materials and then squirted water on it to put our the flames.
In Keller class we have our own fire engine where we have been role playing firefighters in class and we had great fun making our own fire engines.
We started our week with 'Odd Socks Day' and had lots of discussion about being unique and celebrating people's differences.
We have continued our work on 'People who help us' and have been learning about police officers. There were lots of speeding tickets given out and we had fun printing our fingerprints.
In the hospital the doctors and nurses have been very busy treating their patients. We even made a wheelchair for our patient with a broken leg.
We finished the week with our fund raising event for 'Children in need'. We came to school in our sparkly party clothes and did lots of dancing.
Reception have had a really exciting week! We have learnt about Remembrance Day and even tried making our own Poppy Wreaths and hung them on our classroom doors. We took part in the 2 minutes silence to remember the soldiers who fought in wars around the world.
We are making our own poppies for the wreath and trying to develop our fine motor skills by tearing small bits of crepe paper.

It was really nice to be a part of Rememberance Day.
We are also learning about "People Who Help Us" and we wrote down some of the people we know who are helpful. See some of our writings below. In reception we know the importance of exercise as it helps us develop our gross and fine motor skills during P.E.
These are some pieces of writing we have done this week.
We enjoyed learning how to bounce a ball.
Everyone was engaged during this activity.
We have returned to school eager to learn and have been very enthusiastic learning about Diwali and Bonfire night. We began the week exploring the festival of Diwali and learning about the traditions and stories involved with it. The children made their own salt dough and moulded them into diva's which they later painted.
We had great fun making our rangoli patterns both inside and outside and dressed up in saris.
Fireworks play a big part in Diwali celebrations so we linked our learning to Bonfire night and made lots of representations of bonfires and fireworks. We enjoyed reading our firework poem and learning a song about fireworks. We also role played toasting marshmallows in a bonfire and sang songs around the fire.
