In RE we have been learning about how Christians celebrate Christmas. We visited Trinity Church in Stratford to embark on a Christmas Journey and learn about the story of baby Jesus' birth. On our journey we met many important people like Mary, Joseph, Angel Gabriel, the Shepherds and the Three Wise Men.
We got into the festive spirit by singing songs together and by following a star around the church to discover each part of the nativity story. Also, we learned about how the story has influenced many modern Christmas traditions such as advent calendars, lights, candles and why gift giving is significant for Christians.

Earlier this week we had an early Christmas treat. The pantomime came to Stratford Manor and performed 'Sleeping Beauty'. What a thrilling experience! We cheered, we laughed, we danced and we sang our hearts out. The show was so engaging and we loved talking about our favourite parts of the pantomime.
We are looking forward to more festivities!

Whoosh! Swish! Today we watched videos of windy movie scenes and funny weather reports to think about what it is like to experience windy weather. Next, we tried to blow of our classmates hats with a hairdryer! After that we generated fantastic vocabulary about the sounds that wind makes to help us when we write sentences about 'The Queen's Hat'.

There was a mysterious sighting in the playground... we found some peculiar footprints leading to the school bus. Aliens have invaded Stratford Manor and they are on a mission to find out more about the human body. To help the aliens we have being carrying out investigations to find out more about the human body and we have recorded our findings on diagrams.

Despite the rainy weather, we hopped on the tube to Hoxton to visit the Museum of the Home earlier this week. In History we have been asking questions about artefacts to find out more about what life in Stratford was like when our parents and grandparents were young. We explored the museum's exhibitions and discovered how homes have evolved the last 400 years and how domestic technology like TVs, clocks and vacuum cleaners have transformed.

We have been learning all about the geographical features in our community. On a map we located many human features that can be found in Stratford including our school, shops, bus stops, train stations, roads, houses and skyscrapers. Also we went outside and recorded data about the physical features of our local area on a pictagram. Did you we have more trees than bushes in our playground? We know that human features are made by people and physical features are natural.

This week we went on an educational visit to St. John's Church in Stratford to learn more about Christianity and baptisms. As a part of our curriculum unit, 'Ourselves and Our Community' we have been learning about which groups we belong to and we have discovered many ways Christians show they belong to their religion. The members of the church taught us about the meaning symbols including the cross, water and candles. We even got to take part in a baptism role play. It was fascinating and enlightening. Thank you St. John's!

We've had such a busy week with plenty of outdoor learning! In Science we were observing tree trunks closely taking bark rubbings. We identified a sycamore and tree in our playground! We used our sense to observe the bark in detail and described different colours, patterns and textures we noticed. Also, we investigated what the weather is like in Stratford and became meteorologists. We recorded that the weather currently cold, windy and overcast. All these investigations have given us fantastic vocabulary to use in our writing.

We have been learning about different ways of using drawing media in Art and we have been discovering amazing facts about plants in Science. On Wednesday we went on an adventure and took our sketchbooks to the beautiful Ornamental Gardens at West Ham Park! We used our senses to look closely at a variety of flowers, grasses, bushes and trees. Each type of plant has unique colours, patterns, shapes and textures. The scent of the relaxing lavender plants and the beauty of nature made us feel calm.

We have been learning all about wonderful plants in science and investigating how to look after plants. To find out what the parts of a plant are, we have been observing garden weeds closely using lenses and magnifying glasses. We discovered that these plants have hairy roots, thick stems and green leaves. I wonder what their function is? After our investigation, we drew diagrams of the weeds and labelled each part of the plant.

In English we have been reading 'The Last Stop on Market Street' by Matt de la Peña. To put ourselves in the shoes of the main characters CJ and Nana, we waited patiently at the school playground bus stop for the Stratford Manor bus to arrive. We were so fed up and bored! Finally the bus arrived, we were amazed and used our senses to notice what was happening in a bus ride simulation video. This inspired us to generate fantastic vocabulary to use in our writing. Later in the week we were lucky enough to meet and interview the passengers from the story. We asked the 'Butterfly Lady' and 'Guitar Man' many open ended questions to find out more them. The 'Guitar Man' even played 'Wheels on Bus' for us!
