We have been very busy this week learning about the Cristian festival of Easter. Our writing this week was about the Easter Story and we have made Easter baskets, Easter hats and Easter cards.
We also learnt about how chocolate changes when it is warm by making chocolate nests from shredded wheat.
In maths we have been using eggs to practice counting and making doubles and we have also been learning the names and properties of 3D shapes. We were very excited on our shape hunt outside in the garden and managed to find lots of 3D shapes.
We finished the term by looking around the school for the Easter bunny. He left lots of clues for us to follow and when we got back to class he had filled our chocolate nests with eggs and chicks.

This week the children recalled the different countries visited by Emma Jane in our story and chose to find out more about the country of China. We made our own representations of pandas and learnt about what food they eat and the dangers of extinction due to the bamboo forests been cut down. The children were very interested Mount Everest and the Great Wall of China.
We also learnt about Amelia Earhart and made a timeline of her her life.
In mathematics we have been learning to group things in a variety of different ways. We sorted objects with legs and objects without, spotty and stripey monsters and completed the week by sorting odd numbers and even numbers using numberblocks.
On Thursday we had great fun doing sports activities from an outside sports company. We all participated, tried our best and had fun.

We have had lots of fun during 'Science week. We started the week by looking at lots of different types of scientists and thinking about which we would like to be. We then created our own scientists from potatoes and are growing their hair from cress seeds. We ned to remember to keep watering them!
We explored magnets and discovered which materials are magnetic and which are not. We also experimented with bubbles and used straws to move ping pong balls along a tray.
We also worked with Year One to put ourselves in height order to see who had grown the tallest. We stared in small groups of three putting ourselves in height order and then we joined two groups together and had to repeat the ordering. We kept joining groups until we were in one long line along the hall. Some of the reception children were taller than the Year One children!
In maths we have been learning doubles. We have practiced doubling with our fingers and using objects. We are getting very good at recalling double facts automatically. We then went on to record our doubles by making representations of the doubles.
We ended our week with a fantastic trip to Docklands museum. The children were very enthusiastic looking at the many different exhibits. We even found a model of West Ham station. Our favourite gallery was 'Mudlarks' where we had the chance to experience lots of the skills used by sailors and dockers in the past in a fun play based environment.

We have continued our topic 'Journeys' by reading the story Emma Janes Aeroplane by Katie Hawworth and Daniel Rieley.
We began our work on the story by making our own aeroplanes using junk modelling. We then looked at Emma Janes's first city London. We looked on Google Earth and found our school and now understand that we also live in London. We then took a trip down the river and looked at many of the landmarks in London. We then made a map of the river and landmarks.
We also made our own representations of some of the landmarks for example The London Eye and Big Ben.

This week we have been learning about road safety. We practiced in the playground and then went on a local walk to consolidate our learning. We cross some minor roads, used a pelican crossing and finally a zebra crossing. On our walk we had to look for things in our environment such as traffic lights, school signs etc and ticked them off on our worksheet.
In class we made representations of traffic lights on the creative table. We had to mix the colour green and then we developed our fine motor skills by using cotton wool and tweezers to paint our traffic light circles.
In maths we have using numberblocks to help us order numerals in order.
Outside in the garden we all worked together to create our own trampoline park and made a very interesting helicopter.
On Thursday we dressed up as our favourite book character and had a parade in the playground.

This term our topic is 'journeys'. We have begun our learning journey by looking at transport and sorting them into different categories. We have learnt about transport that travels on the road and in the water and can now name many different types .
In Keller Class the children decided to make a their own train and ticket office and in Fossey class we were playing with the remote control cars and the garage
We designed our own vehicles using different resources.
After our lesson on old and new transport some of us made representations of penny farthing bicycles and used magnifying glasses to look at old photos of our local area.
