Our last season was autumn and we natural materials to create pictures.
We finished the week with our balloon challenge. We had our own balloons and our challenge was to keep it in the air the longest. It was harder than we thought! We then worked in teams to keep the balloons in the air which was great fun.
This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. We acted out the Chinese New Year story and have been having lots of races outside. We discovered what happens to noodles when we add hot water and had great fun trying to eat them with chop sticks. Some of us gave up and found different ways to eat outr noodles.
We made small dragons inside a and a large one outside then used it to do our own dragon dance in the playground.
This week we have made our own puppet thatre to retell the stories we have been learning about and also making up some of our own.
We read the story of The Gingerbread Man and then followed instructions to make our own gingerbread men. They were very yummy!
We have also been using our imagination in the garden. Some of us were creating a home for the dinosaurs in the tuff trays using the natural materials in the garden while another group were busy designing their hotel. They created a reception area and some bedrooms for their guests.
This week we have continued our work around the traditional tale 'Little Red Riding Hood'. We have created our own forest in the role play area and have been using the characters from the story to create our own stories.
Inside our forest we have been exploring light and dark by using torches to read with.
We have been learning about animals that live in the forest and which ones are nocturnal .
In maths we have been learning to order numbers and finding one more and one less.
This term our topic is 'Traditional Tales'. We will be reading a range of traditional English stories and some form around the world. The story we will be focusing on will be 'Little Red Riding Hood' focusing on vocabulary and story telling. We will also be looking at the setting of the story and learning about the different animals found in the forest and how the seasons affect its apperance.
We began by looking at pictures of forests and thinking about words to decride them. We then explored colour mixing to create green and brown in order to paint their own forest scene.
We then made our own representations of Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf and added them to our pictures.
The children were very excited to find Little Red Riding Hood's cape and basket outside in the garden and were very eager to retell the story using the props.
