In a fun science lesson, we transformed into super sleuths on a mission to investigate the different types of teeth and how they help us crunch, munch, and nibble our way through life!
Our investigation began with a close-up look at our own chompers. We used mirrors to identify the different shapes at the front of our mouths – the incisors for nipping and the canine teeth for tearing. Then, we explored the back where we found the premolars for grinding and the molars for crushing tougher foods.
Through exciting activities and discussions, we learned that these different teeth work together to break down food into manageable pieces, making it easier to digest. We even discovered that some animals, like lions with their sharp canines, have teeth specially adapted to their diets!

I Apologise
Over the last two weeks in year 4 we have studied Maya Angelou’s poem ‘I Rise’. Children looked at the poetic features of the poem and the content of the poem which was essentially linked to bullying. As a response from the bully the children wrote a response called ‘I Apologise’. Have a look at some of the work below.

Turning tenths into decimals
This week, we learned how to write those tricky tenths as decimals. Remember tenths? They're like slices of a whole pie cut into 10 equal parts.
Through our investigations we were able to figure out that instead of writing fractions like 3/10, we can use a decimal. Decimals use a special dot (.) to show parts of a whole. Here's how it works:
One tenth = 0.1 (the 1 is in the tenths place, just after the dot).
Two tenths = 0.2
Three tenths = 0.3
Can you figure out how to write ten tenths?
Have a look at some of our journals on how to write tenths as decimals.
