For the rest of this half term, Year 1 will be looking at the book After the Fall by Dan Santat. This book will inspire all our learning in all areas of school. This week we began to learn the story of Humpty Dumpty, making our own puppets so we could act out the story for each other. The children now all know the story really well and now we can look at what happens after Humpty Dumpty falls off the wall.
We thought of why Humpty Dumpty might have been up so high and looked at ways we can get up high. This led us to explore planes. So naturally we had to have a go at making our own paper airplanes and have a competition to see who’s plane could fly the farthest.
The children are very excited to continue working with this book and seeing where our learning journey takes us.
After the Fall continued...
This week we have continued to look at After the Fall by Dan Santat and the story of what happened to Humpty Dumpty after he fell off the wall. We looked at Humpty Dumpty and how even though he was put back together there are some things that cannot be fixed with bandages and glue. Humpty is now afraid of heights! This led us to discuss what we are afraid of and talk with our friends about how we can overcome our fears. The children worked very well talking about what scares them and encouraging their friends to take part.
We also continued to work hard on making our own papier mache Humpty Dumpty models. This week we finished covering them with glue and started to paint them. They are really starting to take shape and we will have to pictures soon to share how they turned out so watch this space!
