A Greek Debate
Following on from our workshop at the British Museum, we went on to research to of the main city-states of Ancient Greece: Athens and Sparta. After conducting their research we split the class into two halves- one representing Athens and the other half for Sparta. The children then went into an intellectual debate to present arguments for their city-state to say which one is the better city-state out of the two. After much discussion, the children got to choose which city-state they’d rather be a part of during the Ancient Greek period.

Modern day Greece
This week in Year 4 we have started to look at modern day Greece. We started off by writing what we already know about modern day Greece. The children then used Google Earth to explore what Athens is like today. They were then able to research the average weather in Athens and compared it with the weather of London to see the different climates. Using this information we created a line graph representing the averages in each city.

We had a guided tour around parliament and were able to understand the differences between the House of Commons and the House of Lords. This allowed the children to understand how our UK parliamentary democracy operates.

School Referendum
This week Year 4 organised a school referendum that they had been campaigning for over the last couple of weeks. The referendum question was to whether we should have Friday 'Golden Time' across the school. Each class from Year 1 to Year 6 was able to vote and the outcome was that the majority of the school voted for a 'yes'. This new change will be implemented across the school in the next half term.
