This week in Year 2 we have started a new book for English: 'Stardust'. It is about a little disheartned girl who hears a story from her grandad to realise that everyone is made out of stardust. We have started to write our own versions of the story. Have a look below at some of the work we have done this week.

This week we had a special workhop to make us more ware of the environement and what we can do to help. We were made aware that we can always recycle or rubbish and that, that rubbish can always be transformed into something new. We made junkbots with some of the recycable rubbish that was no longer needed.

This week Year 2 visited the Royal Greenwich Park to have a look at the human and physical geography within the park. We looked at things that may seem like physical geography but is actually man made like the boating pond, for example. To follow this up we will also be visiting the Olympic park to have a look at the physical and human geography. We also managed to tick another thing of our Year 2 bucket list which was to roll down a hill.

This week Year 2 visited the Olympic Park. This was a follow up from our visit to the Greenwich Park. Children were able to observe the difference in physical and human geography within the two parks. We noticed that the Olympic park has a lot more human geography features compared to the Greenwich Park. We also looked a popular landmarks around Stratford. Moving forward, children will design their own landmark sculpture from clay. Stay tuned for our blogs in coming weeks.
This week Year 2 have been working on some artwork which was inspired by James Rizzi. The focus was on London landmarks and using James Rizzi’s idea of personifying buildings to create a collage. Children started by practicing their drawings in their sketchbooks then adding in different styles of eyes and mouths to personify them. They then did their final design on paper and then painted them with contrasting colours. Once this was done, they then went over the lining with felt tip pen. Have a look at our collage below.
Thursday 16th December
This week Year 2, during Art lessons, Year 2 have been working with clay to design their very own London landmark. They started of designing what they want their landmark to look like on paper, so that they can understand what sort of shape they’d like to mould their clay into. They then used various resources such as Lego to create designs on their clay models. This will then be fired in a kiln then glazed. Keep an eye out for what happens to these models in our future blogs.
