The process of evaporation
This week in Science we looked at the process of evaporation. We took three socks and tried to assess what way they water will evaporate from them the quickest. We placed one sock on a radiator, one sock scrunched up and one sock on a washing line. We found that the sock on the radiator evaporated the quickest because it had the most heat coming to it.

Queen Boudicca's illustration
This week in Year 4 we have been looking at how to use historical sources effectively. As part of our topic for this term we have been studying The Roman Empire and with it, of course, Queen Boudicca and the Iceni tribe. Since we do not have a true illustration of Queen Boudicca, we are not entirely sure what she looked like. However, we do have historical descriptions of her. Children used this description to illustrate a picture of what she may have looked like. Have a look a few below.

Roman Britain Workshop
This week Year 4 children attended a virtual tour from the British Museum. The tour allowed children to understand the different role played when a roman artefact is found. They were also able to look at coins and currency from the Roman period. After realising that the writing in the coins are in Latin they were able to decode and translate what is said on the coin.
Fun fact- our £1 coin today also has Latin written on it. Have a look next time you have a £1 coin.

Graphs
This week we have started a new chapter in Maths. Children have been learning about graphs. They started their learning with recapping on bar graphs from previous years and then they learned how to generate a line graph from a bar graph. They then understood that the purpose of using a line graph is to understand trends and make predictions.

How well does sound travel through solids, liquids and gasses?
This week Year 4 have been investigating how sound travels through different states of matter. We used various activities to see how they may travel through liquids solids and gasses. We filled up juga of water and clinked metal scissors in the water to see if they could travel through liquids. We then used string phones to see how well they travelled through solids. Lastly we clapped from a distance to see how well travels sound through gasses. We then investigate different materials and how well sound travels through them.
