On Thursday it was Sports Day! The whole school walked together to Eastlea Secondary School. Once the children arrived they were organised into their groups then set off to complete their challenges!
On Friday 26th May was World Maths Day! Year 3 started off the day with an incredible costume parade. Then they read the book 'Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?' They learnt a Blue Whale is 30m long! So they measured our school to find out if a Blue Whale could fit in their school. Listen to the children's predictions - they had a very good debate!
Following that theycarried out some Maths investigations!
This week, Year 3 have become artists! We looked at the work of the incredible artists the 'Singh Twins'. They are famous for their intricate collage work. The children wanted to create collages about the learning we've done in Unit. As you know our Unit is 'Challenging Stereotypes' so the children created collages about gender stereotyes. Later they are going to discuss in front of the class how these stereotypes are false.
This week, Year 3 went to visit a Synagogue. They learnt all about Judaism, they were sent on a scavenger hunt to find items you'd find at a Synogogue. They tried on the 'kippur' which is a Jewish peice of clothing. To end the visit they were given bread and grape juice to try as this symbolises the start of Shabbat.
This week, Year 3 had some very special visitors! They were visited by Emma who is a Senior Economic Regeneration Officer and Monica who is a manager at the Morgan Sindall Construction Company. They held a workshop here at Stratford Manor, where they asked Year 3 to design their ideal neighbourhood. Children were given a range of materials and crafts to design their poster. These posters will be laminated and displayed on the construction sites along Manor Road! Year 3 had an incredible time discussing and designing!
Archery
This week, year 3 were given an amazing opportunity to take part in an archery class. They were taught how to hold the bow and arrow and and how aim at the target. They had a lot of fun participating in this event!
This half-term our Science unit is 'Forces and Magnets', children carried out an experiment to compare how different objects move on different surfaces. By the end of the lesson, they were able to explain what 'friction' is and it is caused on different surfaces.
To celebrate the holiest month in the Islamic calendar - Ramadan and one of the most special days - Eid Al-Fitr. Children all over the school were tasked with learning all about why this month and day is so special. Activities ranged from learning songs about Eid to researching what Ramadan is why it is so sacred to role-playing the actions Muslims carried throughout Ramadan. To commemorate what children had learnt, the whole school got together to put on an event where children got to showcase what they had learnt.
This week, in Maths children have been learning all about Money. They learnt the value of each coin and note, they also learnt how to add and subtract money.
