Il Calvario di Villa Castelli è un dei luoghi di culto più caratteristici della devozione religiosa della settimana santa di Villa Castelli.

Abbarbicato sul fianco del ciglione di Monte Castello, fu costruito verso la fine del 1800, probabilmente da Antonio Palazzo. Ma degni di nota sono i gruppi della Deposizione modellati in creta da Angelo Peluso.

La struttura è stata restaurata negli anni ’60 ed è stata recentemente abbellita dal pittore Giacomo Cesareo.

La scalinata che accoglie il Calvario fu costruita nel 1884 su commissione dei Padri Passionisti.

Il Venerdì Santo i fedeli di Villa Castelli celebrano la suggestiva processione dei Misteri alla luce delle fiaccole, al suono di marce funebri e al rumore stridente delle “trènule”.

The Calvary of Villa Castelli is one of the most characteristic places of worship of the religious devotion of the holy week of Villa Castelli.

Perched on the side of the Monte Castello ridge, it was built towards the end of the 1800s, probably by Antonio Palazzo. But noteworthy are the groups of the Deposition modeled in clay by Angelo Peluso.

The structure was restored in the 1960s and was recently embellished by the painter Giacomo Cesareo.

The staircase that welcomes Calvary was built in 1884 on commission of the Passionist Fathers.

On Good Friday, the faithful of Villa Castelli celebrate the evocative procession of the Mysteries in the light of torches, the sound of funeral marches and the strident noise of the "trènule".
