Monumento ai Caduti

Il Monumento ai Caduti di Martina Franca è opera dello scultore pugliese Antonio Bassi e si presenta come un maestoso stilobate su cui poggia un grande Obelisco in marmo bianco di Carrara.

Nella parte frontale del monumento è collocato un gruppo scultoreo in pietra di Trani, definito dallo stesso autore degli “Eroi”, che raffigura una scena di battaglia che vede come protagonisti un gruppo di soldati e due cavalli nell'atto di impennarsi.

Al di sotto del gruppo marmoreo si legge l’epigrafe “Ai suoi eroi. Martina Franca”. Nella parte posteriore monumento è collocato un altorilievo in pietra definito “dell’Olocausto” che raffigura un giovane eroe che si offre per la sua amata madre Patria.

The War Monument

The Monument is the work of the Apulian sculptor Antonio Bassi and it shows as a majestic stylobate on which a large obelisk in white Carrara marble rests.

In the front part of the monument there is a sculptural group in Trani stone, defined by the author himself as the “Heroes”, which depicts a battle scene with a group of soldiers and two horses as protagonists in the act of rearing up.

Below the marble group we read the epigraph “To his heroes. Martina Franca ". In the rear part of the monument there is a stone relief called "of the Holocaust" which depicts a young hero who offers himself for his beloved mother country.
