La Torre Cacace

La Torre Cacace a Crispiano è stata eretta attorno al 1873 ed era in origine inserita in un complesso residenziale provvisto di un ingresso monumentale, di una villa padronale e di costruzioni minori, un giardino all’italiana ed infine da una torre alla quale si giungeva risalendo un viale segnalato da due leoni in pietra. La torre è alta 30 metri, ha pianta ottagonale, due ordini di finestre, una per ogni facciata dell’ottagono, e una merlatura continua ad archetti a tutto sesto lungo tutta la cornice alla sommità della torre che in origine era sormontata da un albero di bastimento che ricordava le origini marinare della famiglia cui era dedicata: i Cacace. La torre è stata a lungo il monumento funerario della famiglia fino al 1917, quando, in seguito alla dipartita di Carlo Cacace, la torre fu saccheggiata e spogliata degli arredi e dei cimeli in essa contenuti ed il parco fu lasciato in stato di abbandono.

The Cacace Tower

The Cacace Tower in Crispiano was built around 1873 and was part of a residential complex with a monumental entrance, a manor house and minor buildings, an Italian garden, and finally a tower which was reached by going up an avenuea avenue marked by two stone lions. The tower is 30 meters high, has an octagonal plan, two orders of windows, one for each facade of the octagon, and a continuous crenellation with round arches along the entire cornice at the top of the tower which was originally surmounted by a tree of vessel that recalled the maritime origins of the family to which it was dedicated: the Cacace. The tower was for a long time the funerary monument of the family until 1917, when, following the death of Carlo Cacace, the tower was sacked and stripped of its furniture and relics and the park was left in a state of neglect.
