There he laid, in the helicopter. Staring at the warehouse from above. Being woken up by the sounds of the propeller, swinging around and around. With a Coke in hand, and a gun in the other. He turned and looked at the beauty of Mainz, Germany.
With him were Sigma, Bravo, Wolf and Ghost.
“Hey! Wake up, Captain! We need to get ready for drop-off!” said Sigma.
“Alright alright, shut your trap. I'm awake now. So, what’s the plan Bravo? How are we getting in?”
Captain Jack looked to his left, admiring the vast amount of glistening stars in the sky, each one bouncing off the bright white moon. Captain Jack was the leader of ‘The Brute Force’, a team of elite army agents who specialized in fighting and destroying terrorist organizations. They were known throughout Europe as ‘The Saviours’.
“Well, according to my research, Andrei has many men at his ready. They will be on high alert, so we need to be sneaky. Once we find an entrance into the facility, we are to go searching for the missile. When we find it, we defuse it and save the day,” said Bravo.
“Excuse me, why do we need this guy on our team again? He didn’t give us any information and he wants us to go in there and try and save the day! You know what, I'm going to punch you right in the...” Captain Jack grabbed Wolf by the collar of his shirt.
“STOP IT! If it was not for him, then we would have not even found this warehouse in the first place! Also, there must be a reason why he isn’t giving us a lot of information, right Bravo?”
Everyone looked at Bravo. “Of course there is. The reason is that there is no information on Andrei or the warehouse we are going into. You knew this when you signed up. This COULD be a possible death trap. We don’t even know who Andrei is or who he works for. The only thing we know is that Andrei wants to bomb half of Europe. We must defuse the missile.”
Wolf had a worried look in his eye, and he cried, “Uh oh… This is why you read the fine print in legal documents.”
For the first time in days, Ghost stood up and spoke, “We do this for Europe.”
Wolf continued, “Wow. That’s the most I have ever heard Ghost talk before.”
The pilot of the helicopter looked back and informed the team, “Time to drop off. Be ready.”
They all got their parachutes on and prepared to jump out. Jack took one step forward and fell towards the overgrown field filled with livestock. The team followed Jack, and so Operation Armageddon began.
The team walked across the field, admiring the beautiful pastoral surroundings which Germany had to offer. Captain Jack pulled out an old picture that he found from when he was in the Vietnam War. The war had just ended, and Captain Jack believed that maybe Andrei was the cause of it all. It showed a man smiling with a bunch of soldiers in Vietnam. At the bottom, it had a caption which read “Our glorious leader Andrei.”
He felt a sharp, cold finger touch the back of his shoulder.
“Captain, we are here, are you ready?”
Captain Jack looked forward, “Born ready, Sigma. Born ready.”
The team split up, as they looked for different entrances into the facility, until everyone felt a buzz from their walkie-talkies.
“Everyone, I have found a hole in the fence over on the north side of the facility. Meet up over by me. Bravo over.”
Ghost, Wolf, Captain Jack, and Sigma all went to find Bravo and the hole that he had found in the fence. Seconds turned into minutes, until finally they saw the small hole which had been cut out from the cold and menacing fence. However, there was one thing wrong.
“BRAVO!!!” Captain Jack exclaimed after he saw Bravo being dragged into the facility by some men. There was not enough time for the team to worry about the ten rugged-looking individuals, who had muscles the size of the team's heads, that ran out from the door that Bravo was dragged into. The team were forced to take a position.
In response, the group ran over to Captain Jack, because they knew he would know how to get out of a situation like this. Bullets still flying in, he yelled “Ghost, I want you to try and sneak into the facility while we distract them. Once you do, then just shoot them in the back. Sigma, Wolf, you guys and I will try to distract them by shooting them, alright?”
The whole group chimed in saying, “YES SIR!”
Ghost ran to the hole in the fence while the rest of the team shot at the enemies. Luckily, they did not see Ghost run in from behind, and Ghost finished off every single one of them.
“Keep moving,” Captain Jack ordered.
The team went back to the door, where the men had taken Bravo. They admired the light from the bright night sky, bouncing off of the steel door. They went inside, knowing this could mean they could all die, but also knowing it was a risk they would have to take. The team was shocked at first, as the warehouse looked normal, with shipping containers lining the building and rows of doors all around them. The warehouse felt dark and cold. It was dimly lit by flickering lights. The team knew they had company.
“This looks like a normal warehouse. How could this place even have a missile in it?” asked Wolf. Although he was ignored, as the team didn’t have time for silly questions.
The team opened every single door that they came across; they pushed through quickly, hoping that they could find something that would help them find the missile, or even Bravo. They came across one door, which they entered. They noticed a piece of paper on a table. The team went to look at what it said, and only one person on the team was amazed by what it read.
“Sigma, why do you look so happy? It’s just a piece of paper that has some weird symbols on it,” Captain Jack said.
“Sir, this isn't just a piece of paper, this is code! It states that the missile is three doors down, and to the left!” exclaimed Sigma.
“It can't be that easy, can it?” asked Wolf.
“Come on! Let’s go and find that missile!” said Sigma cheerfully.
“Wait, no one moves any farther. I see something,” Ghost said abruptly.
“No way! He can talk? I thought he was a mute!” joked Wolf.
“Be quiet. Trust me on this. There is a trap by the doorway; a tripwire to be exact,” Ghost said.
“Well let's all just jump over it. No big deal,” said Wolf.
“This could mean a lot more than just jumping over a tripwire, Wolf. If it was not there when we entered the room - why would it appear after we entered the room? This is a booby trap that we set off, and this must mean that they have been expecting our visit. But how?” exclaimed Sigma.
“Like I said, we don’t have time for questions right now! We need to keep moving, we are so close to the missile!” said Captain Jack.
The team moved on, jumping over the trap. As a team, they all went looking for the room in which the missile was supposed to be. When they found the door, they were cautious to open it, as they thought there might be another booby trap in the room. Who would blame them? Wearily, Captain Jack opened the door, expecting something different from what was facing him.
“BRAVO! We found you!” exclaimed Captain Jack. Although they did find Bravo, they noticed he was tied up with explosives attached to him.
Unfortunately, Bravo exploded right there in front of them. The sound was deafening. The team lost all hope. They had their hands in their faces, crying and praying to God. Until it got even worse.
“Oh, well there is no need to feel sad. I'm still here. HAHAHAHAHAHA!” They all looked at the blown-up dummy on the floor in shock. Bravo continued, “I just stalled you long enough until my men came. Look behind you!”
The team looked around, noticing the men holding big and new-looking machine guns in their hands. At that moment, Captain Jack realized what had happened.
“Why would you betray us? Why would you work for this sick Andrei person?” shouted Captain Jack.
He could not force an answer out of Bravo, as at that moment the team got knocked out by the team of men holding the heavy machine guns.
Slowly and wearily, after what seemed like hours, Captain Jack woke up in a cold room tied up with the rest of his team. He struggled to get his arms out of the ties, pulling and struggling to break free. He then felt a pop in the ties. He was free. His team was not. But he needed to go and find the missile. So he left. He left his team lying on the floor, not knowing if it was the right choice.
Captain Jack banged on doors, falling and feeling faint after trying to open every last one. Crying in the process, knowing Europe could be in serious jeopardy.
He came across the last door in the vast hallway, hoping the missile was in the last room. He burst through and there it was. The huge military missile. One figure stood underneath it: Bravo.
“Oh Jack, fancy seeing you here,” laughed Bravo.
“Tell me NOW! Why would you betray us like that?” exclaimed Captain Jack.
“You see Andrei is not one singular person; A.N.D.R.E.I. is a huge terrorist organization, which I am proud to be a part of. I deserted your army for money and power. We are going to take over Europe. We are going to finish the job. The army was not fulfilling my destiny. When the world was focused during the aftermath of the Vietnam War, A.N.D.R.E.I. saw an opportunity to try and seize power: first Europe, then eventually all the continents, one by one. Europe will not see it coming. I betrayed you all, and I don’t regret it,” explained Bravo.
They both pulled out guns at the same time. As the bullets flew across the dark, depressing room, bounding towards one another, Captain Jack was shot in the leg. He fell to the floor. Bravo got shot right in the stomach, immediately falling to the floor. Captain Jack crawled over to the missile, and he tried everything to deactivate it. Jack fiddled with buttons, and tried punching it over and over again. He looked up through the window. The dark blue sky was turning into an orange array of lights. He found a wrench that was to his left. He hit the missile over and over again. The missile split open with sparks flying everywhere.
“Missile aborted,” said a low-pitched automatic voice. Captain Jack did not have enough time to celebrate. He heard men running towards the missile room. He found an exit door in the back corner of the room. It looked shady, but he had no choice but to go to it while crawling. Now outside, he went to the fence, crawled over to the extraction point, and lay down. He knew that he could die there at that very moment, but at least he was content that in the process he had saved Europe from fascism and a dictatorship.
He had a glimmer of hope. He saw his team run towards him. Sigma worked to successfully resuscitate and save the Captain’s life. There was a breakthrough and the whole team smiled.
“Sir, you are alright now. Let's get out of this hellhole,” gasped Sigma.
And there he laid, in the helicopter. Staring at the warehouse from above. Being woken up by the sounds of the propeller, swinging around and around. With a Coke in his hand and a bandage on his leg. Smiling while looking at the sunset in beautiful Mainz.
