Life in the Shire
Adrian Ng
As I sit by the strong, gnarled, oak tree, I feel the warm rays of the sparkling sun, seeping through the colourful glistening leaves. The birds chirping their beautiful serenade brings the Shire to life, it calls the light soothing wind to come forth, making the shimmering river flow with joy. I hear the delicate buzzing of the bees, as they buzz around, bringing along the aroma of fresh nectar and honey as they fly from flower to flower. I see the iridescent butterflies, fluttering around the serene environment, unfazed by the small children chasing them. I hear children laughing, playing, and screaming with glee as they chase the butterflies throughout the luscious flower field. The vibrant butterflies finesse the young children with rhythmic patterns outclassing even the most prestigious dancers. They move across the flowery field with grace, sometimes stopping by to taste the bountiful nectar. I reach down to pick one of the vivid roses below. I lean in to smell it, feeling each unique pebble shifting as I move. I take a deep inhale, the beautiful red petals tickle my nose with a delicate touch. The angelic smell of the rose makes me shiver with joy. The silence is disturbed by the gentle crashing of the nearby creek. I see the fish swimming, with each leap causing a splash that causes ripples that move through the water with elegance. I stand up and gaze around admiring the beauty of my home. Everywhere I look, I see smiles, lots of young, tiny creatures, and most importantly, I see the heart of our people. This is the Shire, and I’m glad to be here, as this is the only place that is right for me.
