Steps for Students

All MacEwan students participating in University Travel outside the Greater Edmonton area must adhere to the Travel Policy and ensure that all steps leading to departure are completed including travel authorization and registration. 

STEP 1: Plan your trip

Prior to booking any travel, it is important to understand the risks, local environment, health care system and security precautions related to the location(s) you are visiting. 

STEP 2: Get travel authorization

University-related travel must be authorized before you leave on your trip. Contact your instructor, chair or dean to ensure the Travel Authorization Form meets your department’s needs.

SAMU Groups: contact the SAMU Student Groups Manager and the Manager, Student Life 

STEP 3: Register your travel

All students who participate in University Travel must register their trip using International SOS MyTrips (see MyTrips User Guide).


When travelling internationally, students are also encouraged to sign up with the Registration of Canadians Abroad service. 

STEP 4: Prepare for departure

There are things you can do prior to travel to remain safe and enjoy your trip:

Students Participating in group travel

Students travelling as part of a group with a designated Group Leader, do not need to complete a Travel Authorization Form, but will need to:
