joint work site Health and Safety Committees

MacEwan University is committed to ensuring a safe working environment for all of its faculty, staff and students. Joint Work Site Health & Safety Committee (JWHSC) members are important resources and contribute to safety in the workplace and to the success of our health and safety program.

MacEwan's JWHSC is made up of employer and worker representatives from different areas of the university. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Part 3), the committee assists the employer to:

  • Identify potential health and safety hazards in the workplace.

  • Conduct physical workplace inspections.

  • Hold regular meetings.

  • Raise awareness of health and safety issues in the workplace.

  • Respond to employee complaints and suggestions concerning safety and health.

  • Provide recommendations to management for incident prevention and safety program activities.

For more information on the JWHSC’s role in a healthy and safe workplace, consult the committee’s Terms of Reference.
