Fire safety program
The goal of a Fire Safety Program is to provide a safe environment in university facilities through fire prevention and fire protection systems. This is accomplished through fire prevention education, fire extinguisher training and fire and life safety inspections and testing (conducted by Facilities).
Fire extinguisher Program
Fire Extinguishers and Guidelines
Fire extinguishers are appropriate for small fires and no bigger than a wastepaper basket. Portable extinguishers, however, are not designed to fight large or spreading fires.
It is important to remember that you are never required to put the fire out, but if you attempt to extinguish a fire then you need to know when and how to use the fire extinguisher. Fire extinguishers are only valuable safety devices when you know how to use them.
Fire Extinguisher Training
The Office of Emergency Management offers Fire Extinguisher training which consists of an online course and a hands-on training session. While anyone at MacEwan can take this free training, it is ideal for:
Floor wardens
Security Services personnel
Facilities and maintenance staff
Sports and Wellness staff
Fine Arts - theatre and workshops
Arts & Science - individuals who work or study in a lab setting
Residence staff
Food services personnel
Event staff
