This course emphasizes the synthesis and application of concepts, principles, and skills learned in prerequisite nursing courses. Students are given the opportunity to have intensive clinical experiences in selected clinical settings. Clinical experience is directed by faculty and supervised by clinical preceptors in a variety of settings. Prerequisites: NRSG 412,418/418L, 428/428L (B- or better); corequisite: NRSG 410W (B- or better); corequisite or prerequisite: NRSG 402W (B- or better).
Students meet the University of Lynchburg outcomes for Education by achieving the course objectives. The course objectives are derived from the Nursing Program Outcomes (PO), the AACN BSN Essentials (Essential), ANA Standards, and QSEN Competencies.
The student will: Make appropriate nursing practice decisions for persons in a selected health care setting using research and evidence based practice (PO1, Essential II, ANA Standard 13, QSEN competency Evidence Based Practice, Quality Improvement).
The student will: Provide safe, patient-centered, culturally competent nursing care for persons in a selected health care setting (PO2/Essential IX, ANA Standards 1-6, 8, QSEN competency Patient Centered Care, Safety).
The student will: Communicate effectively and collaborate appropriately with persons in a selected health care setting and with members of the intraprofessional and interprofessional healthcare team (PO 3& 4/Essential VI, ANA Standards 5, 9, 10, QSEN competency Teamwork and Collaboration).
The student will: Integrate knowledge of management skills (including time management and patient care prioritization) for planning and coordinating safe and competent patient care (PO8/Essential II & IX, ANA Standards 1-6, 11, QSEN competency Teamwork and Collaboration, Safety).
The student will: Demonstrate professional behaviors and values to model the core attributes of the nursing profession and pursue practice excellence (PO8/Essential VII & IX, ANA Standards 7, 14, QSEN competency Quality Improvement).
