Week in Review

“It is so important to take time for yourself and find clarity. The most important relationship is the one that you have with yourself.” -Diane Von Furstenberg

January 8, 2021

Happy New Year! We are at the end of our first week from a much needed break. Our transition back was smooth and uneventful. We are all feeling refreshed, well rested, and ready for the start of the next semester. The second semester will start on Tuesday, January 19th. Monday, January 18th is a non-school day for all students due to teacher professional development day. Students will be receiving their schedules via email in order to review and plan for their second semester classes. In addition, our school counselors have been sending out information to students about new learning opportunities for the second semester as well as other courses that still have available seats. We are encouraging all students with academic study time to review these options and take advantage of these learning experiences.

As we return back to school, it is important to remind everyone that we do continue to follow and enforce our guidelines and expectations of all individuals that enter the building in order to keep everyone safe and healthy. We do require that everyone wears a face mask, maintains physical distancing, washes their hands and uses hand sanitizer, and stays home if they are sick. Please remember that neck gaiters and scarves are not permitted and do not provide the protection that is needed. If a student is in need of a face mask, we do have extra ones to provide them upon entering the school. In addition, students must remain in the school once they have completed their health screening. Unless a student has a scheduled appointment, they are not permitted to leave campus and come back during the school day.

Lastly, this week we were given the green light to start winter athletic practices. Students are excited to have these opportunities and have been great about following all of the protocols put in place in order to practice. We encourage you to stay up to date on practices and other important athletic information on our school athletic webpage.

Winter Carnival:

On December 21 and 22, we hosted our first Winter Carnival. Student Leadership developed various events for all students to participate in. Students made cards for nursing homes, designed snowflakes and other decorations to 'jazz up' the hallways, competed in minute-to-win-it games, worked together to make the biggest snow person, and competed in sled races. There was much laughter, a sense of community, and an incredible amount of positivity that filled the air those two days. It was a fantastic way to end our December and move into our school break. We hope we can create more events similar to the carnival this spring. Below are some pictures captured over the two days. We also put together a video that you can view by clicking on the link below.

Student Announcements:

This year our Student Leadership group is creating student announcement videos for all students. These videos are shared with advisories each Wednesday. Watch the most recent videos below.

Snow Days will be School Days:

As the colder weather approaches and we already saw snow this week, we need to plan for the possibility of school closings due to inclement weather and unsafe road conditions. In the event we need to call for a snow day, we have developed a remote learning plan so that students can continue with their coursework. When we have a snow day, we will follow our current schedule . For example, if we need to call a snow day on a Tuesday, the students that were scheduled for in-person will have their classes remotely via Google Meet. Students who were already scheduled for a remote day will continue with the plan that was outlined by their teachers for remote learning.
