Welcome to my weekly blog - I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.
In the blink of an eye, another half-term has flown by, and what an incredible period it has been. Filled with joy, happiness, and most importantly, significant progress.
Today, our Year 11 students celebrated their leavers assembly with awards, laughter, and some delicious food. Ms. Bunger has written a message to you all below—please take a moment to read it.
We also had the pleasure of meeting our nervous yet excited new Year 7 students who will be joining us at LBS in September. We eagerly look forward to welcoming them again for a full transition day on Wednesday, 3rd July.
During this busy half-term, we have witnessed remarkable triumphs and successes from our Elite Academy provision, encompassing Sport, Music, and Performing Arts. Additionally, we've celebrated many other achievements from across the school over the past seven weeks.
Our attendance rate continues to set new standards. This week alone, we recorded an impressive 96.7% attendance, which is 6.7% above the national average.
As always, I want to extend a huge thank you to all our parents and carers for your unwavering support and for encouraging your sons to commit to their educational journey. Moreover, I offer a tremendous thank you to our superb, dedicated staff for consistently placing your sons' needs at the forefront of everything they do.
Let’s take a moment to reflect on the successes of this half-term, enjoy the holiday, and prepare for the final stretch of the year.
As a final reminder, we will return to school at the usual time on Monday, 3rd June.
Joining Lordswood Boys' School in September 2023 was absolutely nerve racking! I had been teaching both boys and girls for 10 years, and was nervous about forming a positive working relationship with just the young men at Lordswood. 9 months on and I can wholeheartedly say it has been the best decision I made, and I think the wonderful gentlemen in Year 11 may be part of the reason why. In less than a year I have proudly watched them mature, understand the importance of holding themselves accountable and treat each other with kindness and compassion. It is lovely watching the boys with each other and see some friendships that will last a lifetime. With the guidance of wonderful Literacy Tutors, Head of Year and every other single adult in the building pushing them towards their greater selves, we wish the Class of 2024 well as they leave us knowing their futures are bright. I look forward to hearing your success stories down the road. Good luck for the remainder of your GCSE examinations- we will be excited to celebrate with you on Results Day.

The National Online Safety programme publishes a weekly #WakeUpWednesday update for parents/carers. This weeks update relates to 'ENCOURAGING HEALTHY FRIENDSHIPS'.
It’s common for young people to have comparatively less of an understanding of social conventions. While children can benefit from this to some degree – making friends at the drop of a hat – this can also generate a good deal of confusion regarding certain aspects of any relationships that they form.
I hope your find this information useful.

Performing Arts
Year 8 have had lots of fun in their Drama lessons this week as we have been developing their physical performance skills through the use of masks. The purpose of this project is to challenge students’ understanding of Commedia Dell’Arte and the importance of masks within this style of theatre. Commedia Dell'Arte is a form of improvisational theatre that originated in Italy in the 16th century, prominently featured masks. Masks in drama serve as powerful tools for enhancing storytelling, symbolising deeper themes, and connecting performances to cultural and ritualistic roots. Well done Year 8 your creativity and imagination has been fantastic!
Here is a reminder regarding our Extra-Curricular provision. Please find the timetable below of the clubs that we offer. This timetable has been amended slightly for the remainder of this half-term.

Year 7, 8 and 10 were out training on Tuesday evening, we had over 100 students training which is absolutely fantastic to see. The theme for this half-term has focused on supporting possession away from the ball in order to receive in the next phase and to open up space. Year 7 have a fixture the first week back after half-term against Harborne Academy.

The LBS Staff enjoyed a game of Handball this week. As always, the game was very competitive! Highlights included Miss Sandhu deciding to pass to any team she felt like, Mr Calder developing a bad back from constantly picking the ball out of the net and Bobby who had to sit out after two minutes of running.
