Many years later in Ireland a woman called Nano Nagle had seen the poor children in the streets who had no food, or families, or education.
Like Mary, Nano said "yes" to God when she saw these poor children. Nano walked the alleyways, carrying her lantern, teaching children how to read and write. Nano became known as the Lady of the Lantern.
That's why we ask you to 'Let Your Light Shine".
Nano Nagle started the Presentation Order - a group of women who devoted their lives to helping poor children.
The Sisters of the Presentation Order arrived in Lismore from Ireland and started St Carthage's school on the 11th October 1886. That's 136 Years ago!
Who is in the picture above? What is the lady carrying?
We let our light shine to carry on the work of Nano Nagle - when we are responsible, respectful, work and play safely and try to be the best person we can be.
Let us pray together:
God of Light, help us let our own light shine.
Help us to be responsible students.
Help us to always be respectul.
Help us always play and work safely.
Help us be the best person we can be.
May we say 'Yes' just as Mary and Nano Nagle did.
Let our light shine!
Amen
