ANZAC DAY prayer
Needs: Cross, Flag, Flower, rosemary, picture of Mary/Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Leader: We gather together today to commemorate ANZAC Day and remember those who have served Australia and New Zealand in times of conflict and war.
We honour their bravery and courage.
We use these symbols to help us to remember the sacrifice of those who served.
Reader 1: The Cross:
The Cross is to remind us of all these soldiers and civilians who like Jesus gave their lives unselfishly for others.
Reader 2: The Flag.
The Flag reminds us that this is truly a national day of prayer for peace when we pray for all those who died or were injured in wars.
Reader 3: The Flower:
The Flower we place at the foot of the cross - to remind us of the need to turn from war and hatred to become peace-seeking people.
Reader 5: The Pot of Rosemary:
The Pot of Rosemary, this herb is used as a symbol of remembrance
Reader 6: A Picture of Mary:
A picture of Mary, Our Lady Help of Christians and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, both the patron Saints of Australia.
We can pray to Mary, Our Lady Help of Christians and St Mary of the Cross MacKillop to protect our land.
Peace Prayer
Lord God, You made our beautiful world
You created us to love you
and to love one another
We pray for of an end to wars, we pray for peace.
We pray for an end to hatred and cruelty, we pray for peace.
We pray for respect for one another, we pray for peace.
Pray Together:
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
Lest we forget
