A Prayer to celebrate ANZAC Day
For younger students
Introduction:
We gather to remember ANZAC Day; a day when Australians and New Zealanders give thanks for their free and peaceful countries. We remember and thank those who protected and still protect our beautiful lands. We stop and pray for peace –
peace in our world,
peace among people in our town
peace in our families,
Today we also pray for those in our world who are affected by war. We especially keep in our hearts and prayers the people of Ukraine.
Let us sing our National Anthem:
Advance Australia Fair- by the Butterfly House Family
God Defend New Zealand New Zealand Ministry of Education
Please remain standing as we listen to the Gospel:
This is what Jesus said about peace.
The Word
A reading from the Gospel according to John.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Just as my Father has loved me so I have loved you. My command to you is this: love one another, just as I love you.
The greatest love a person can have for his friends is to give his life for them. You are my friends if you do what I command you to do.”
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to You Lord Jesus Christ
Be seated during the reflection
Reflection: We Will Remember Them (My Grandfather’s Hat)- the song lasts more than 6 minutes with the Last Post played. (4: 14 is a good place to stop the video)
